The trouble is its not 1 book it it? Last year we has 62,000,000 people travel through LHR. If half of those are carrying books, and it takes 15 seconds to get the book out, hand it over, check it and hand it back, well you do the maths on how much delay that causes.

Great, the misses is going to Dublin tomorrow. I have to be up at 4:30am to take her to the airport but now looks like I have to leave at 3am that means my friday nights gone since I'll be fast asleep come 9pm.

Good thing though is that they caught the cvnts before posing any threat to us. well done lads.

If we're going to be really pedantic then the objective is a total overthrow of democracy (we'll pretend we still have one for now) and our way of life, to be replaced by a despotic dictatorship of Mullahs and their hangers-on. But the preferred technique is through mass destruction and huge loss of life. Just causing fear and terror isn't enough for these boys... unfortunately.

Exactly. The less things taken on board the quicker the security checks can be sorted and you can get on your way. Id much rather sit on a plan with no book to read than spend an extra hour in the queue for customs....

Good to see in a time of concern the Mi5 website has ground to a halt, the place to go for advice and it looks like it's falling over!

Yeah, fair point. But how do you allow for the amount of people who are going to stand at checkin arguing about why they can't take a book on board to entertain their children on a 12 hour flight ??

I am all for tight security, but at times I think they go just a bit too far.

If you say so, just because your incapable of having a reasoned debate its not my fault is it? You cant even read somebodies posts and understand them, then calling them an idiot because of your inadequences.

Carry on your moaning like a true prat yourself. All because your not allowed a book on the plane

Fair point, but total bollox.

1. Do you know of a book that will keep a child entertained for 12 hours? If so, tell me its title please.
2. Check out the IFE systems for long haul carriers now. Loads of TV channels, video games etc.

Who needs a book to keep kids entertained?

People have to understand that flying will change. Personally I'd be happy spending 8+ hours keeping my kids entertained anyway I can, if the alternative is watching them spill out of the split fuselage of a 747 thats been blown apart by some Islamist scumbag.

It really is that simple folks!

Not Baaa actually its BAA, the company that I work for, and as such I probably know a little more about this than you do UB.

So, go back to your tin foil lined house, keep listening for the clicks on the phone line, and enjoy you conspiracy theories.

So in the stroke of a HM soundbite, we have gone back to the dark ages!

X-rays are useless, trianed security gaurds, are nothing more than porters, and your freedoms are right royally f*cked!!!!

now prehaps i,m a bit cynical () but if an x ray machine thats been used for years without any concerns or issues is now suddenly incapable of telling the differance between a mobile phone or an ipods innards, then somthing seriously is amiss.

two big flaws in the argument,

one why wait until this late stage to act!!! and why the draconian measures on the ground. after 9/11 security was ramped up to the level of if it looks sharp it is, and if we dont like it it dosent go on!!!

So you can now guarantee, that some new sociallly devisive measures will be implented, the PC brigade will kick off on one, sops will be made to our ethnic friends, and the rest of us will be subjected to more intrusuion and control

The airlines will use this as an oppertunity to dump a load of jobs, and return record profits to boot.

To answer your first question, Mart - because they were all in the same place at the same time, thus ensuring mass arrests. In fact they've held 21 but say they are still tracking down 2 others. High risk strategy, but you can't agrue that it worked.

Just get on the plane... The chances of it blowing up are very small. Probably got more chance of being involved in a car accident before you go IMO.
