What a top, top, top day capped by seeing Sheff Utd actually winning a game and in injury time!
Day started off for Clare with more trauma than the crash last time with the inadvertent sight off Bob on the bog. I revived her with smelling salts - Victorian style.
Big, big thanks to Steve, Dave and Lyndon for the go in the shed - what happened to it in the end? On a similar note big thanks to Dave for putting up with my 'rabbit in the headlights' approach to dealing with the back end going . Still I bloody enjoyed myself, shed's are definately the way forward for track days!
Cheers to Sticky for the passenger ride....just bloody wished mine pulled like that felt very torquey.
Si - hope everything works out alright, keep us posted.
All in all a great day out with lots of sound, sound people, I'll try and get some video footage up in the next couple of days.
Oh and found it amusing that I'd nearly joined 'The Popular People's front of WYIOC' without actually knowing it.

Scunny Shell garage
Hi Guy's
Sounds like you all had fun !!
Who's is the yellow scoob above ? I said Hi to you when you filled up at the Scunny Shell garage at tea time !! (I was the rather 'plain looking' blue 03 WRX filling up next to you !).
You were followed into the garage by about 4 other Scoobs !!!
I don't see any for ages then I'm surrounded !!
Nice paint job by the way !!
One of your group even had time to wash his Scoob !!
I forgot it was the track day at Blyton or I would have popped in (I only live down the road !)
Maybe next time !! I'll just have to make do with the pic's and vid's....
See Ya next time maybe....

Thanks to everyone for coming along and having a great day. Without my Scoob I thought I wouldn't enjoy myself, but the opposite proved to be true. Many thanks to Steve for acquiring our Pug which provided more laughs than the Scoob ever did. By removing the fear of damage and costly repair bills we were able to fully exploit the vehicle and track to great amusement. Thanks also to everyone for keeping it safe on track and respecting the overtaking policy.
I hope everyone made it home safe and without too much damage, wear and tear. Our little Pug joined Dave's Sierra on it's final journey atop a 16 tonner (thanks Dave) to the scrappers. It would have been too dangerous to drive it back with no brakes, and the engine was showing signs of nearing death.
I hope Simon can sort the Leon out without too much hassle or expense.
However, late in the day I was approached by the venue representative whom expressed concerns over some of the activities going on. If we are welcomed back once the owner is made aware we must I'm afraid instil much more control, discipline and respect. I think next time there must be a strict age limit of perhaps 13, no bikes (quads or minimoto's), no lorries, no unauthorised use of the venues other facilities (skidpan and grasstrack), spectating restricted to the grass embankment and a little more professionalism to some of the driving. At previous events we have been approached much earlier when the excitement and exuberance of the day has started to get out of hand. Yesterday we seemed to run riot and it was too late to rein things in by the time I was made aware of the concerns. If I had been made aware sooner I would have been more than happy to remedy the situations, but as it stands Howard is going to be presented with a catalogue of events which will cast us in a bad light for consideration as to our suitability to use the venue in future.

Dave, I have to disagree with regards to the tone. I agree we have to listen to what rachel had to say, but we must also give our account of the day to Howard. I'd like to ensure that the level of enjoyment and exuberance shown was not dangerous or OTT in any way. Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely and stayed within the known boundaries. Please make Howard aware of the following.
If we are welcomed back once the owner is made aware we must I'm afraid instil much more control, discipline and respect.
I believe everyone showed control, discipline and respect. I'm not aware of one person stepping beyond any agreed or known boundaries. There was not even a hint of 'hooning around'. I'm aware of one incident when someone on the track was a little too close.. but that was all. Once driver went on to the track without a helmet, but you pulled them off immediately.
I think next time there must be a strict age limit of perhaps 13,
Why? No other track has age limits. The speed restriction was held without question and no under 16's went beyond the track boundaries. My young girl was around the pit area and not once did I feel she was at risk. This came down to the fact that everyone was proffesional and courteous when entering or leaving the track. The drum at the enterence where the tags were given out and collected meant that vehicles had to stop.
no bikes (quads or minimoto's), no lorries
We were not told these things could notbe used. The kids were way off the pit area on the rough grass and rode around all day in a small circle. It wasn't fast or dangerous and they were propely kitted out. The Quad was used by a few adults only and Kev ensured everyone was aware of the controls and that they were able to ride a bike. Again, no one was OTT or acted stupidly. The lorry was used to drop off the sierra. It was parked up all through the day, until it left with one excursion on an empty track.
no unauthorised use of the venues other facilities (skidpan and grasstrack),
Again, we were not told that these were unauthorised until late on. We've used the dirt track at every event and nothing has been said. AFAIK, the dirt area was used properly (you yourself said how much fun it was). These can be easily meantioned as out of scope for the day, if Howard believes they are.
spectating restricted to the grass embankment
Only once in the whole day did a few adults take to the inside of the pit lane bend. Dazza and few camera owners found some great vantage points. Every year to date, people have wandered safely over to particular vantage points. IMO, no one was dangerously positioned. There was one, borderline spectator sat 10 yards back on the outside of the the pit lane bend, but one attendee asked the person to move and he did so with no issues. I do agree that this should be a regular part of the brief.
and a little more professionalism to some of the driving.
Can we be provided with times when the driving was unproffesional? Maybe in Rachel's controlled context some were too quick for their own good, but is this unproffesional? I saw nothing that indicated unproffesional or dangerous driving. What I did see were people testing the envelope and on the limit. As you say, drivers of the 309D & Sierra were unrestricted in their style and were therefore quicker and bolder. Was this unproffesional? Not at all. You yourself have expressed how much fun the 309 was due to having no responsibility for it. We are not briefed on being proffesional, only safe. TBH Long may that continue.
At previous events we have been approached much earlier when the excitement and exuberance of the day has started to get out of hand. Yesterday we seemed to run riot...
I disagree with this. Again, at no point did anything get out of hand or run riot. People took advantage of the facilities because they had not been told that these were out of scope until the end of the day. You, yourself as organiser, enjoyed the dirt track.
and it was too late to rein things in by the time I was made aware of the concerns. If I had been made aware sooner I would have been more than happy to remedy the situations
This I agree with. Rachel should have mentioned something before. Not when it was too late. When told, people left the skid pan and moved from the dirt track without an issue or single word being said.
but as it stands Howard is going to be presented with a catalogue of
events which will cast us in a bad light for consideration as to our suitability to use the venue in future. Today 11:31
I feel it your duty to contest this. In summary, nothing happened that could be considered dangerous. I saw nothing that was unproffesional or out of hand. Positive comments have been made as to the organisation and control that was put in place. I'm sure some things happened that may be considered beyond the boundaries, but I for one saw nothing and I ws there all day marshalling and checking. Every incident on track was dealt with quickly, safely and with safety a paramount objective. Cars were provented from entering the track and I belive that this was a proffesionally organised & run event within the context of the small club that we are and to the fact that the track does not come with proffesional marshalling.
In summary: Rachel should provide evidence that dangerous or unproffesional activities took place. Her being miffed that we'd used facilities not paid for agreed with is not justification to find fault with minor issues. There was not a single accident or incident that could be put down to negative behaviour.
Alan.

Definately have to agree with Alan on this one. Howard needs to hear both sides of the story.
I am pretty sure our incident record will speak for itself if Howard uses his own judgement. Yes we do push some boundaries and somethings happen that would not happen on for example a track day at Donnington but we don't go for that, we all go for some safe fun and to push the limits of our cars. If we wanted to do nothing more than timed laps/racing lines then we could go to Donnington.
I understand where the argument re bikes is coming from and I will not be bringing mine again. The age limit thing I am unsure about, spectators who are there in someones care no problems, I hardly saw Alans daughter all day apart from when she was token co-ordinating. I would say no footballs/mini scooters etc as the football did keep getting chased into the path of reversing cars and it is difficult to see while wearing a helmet. Maybe we need to take some barrier tape next time and cordon off some areas. The kids on the bikes in the morning were down right daft racing through the pit lane but once told things did calm down and in the afternoon there were no issues.
Track incidents were yet again delt with professionally however I will provide a red flag for next time to stop traffic in case of an incident as we ended up just waving arms at people - not a problem but an opportunity for improvement.
I understood we hired the venue and not just the track, if this was not the case it needed highlighting (probably by Rachael!!). As said if Rachael had approached one of the 'management team' earlier on this would have all been sorted there and then, she was about all day so why did she keep quiet - was she not man enough to speak out??

Before going any further into this I shall await Howard's response. I have pre-empted his disapproval by already issuing an apology from myself, and on behalf of the club, without detailing any specific incidents so as not to make things any worse. Let's hope he is understanding and we don't lose the opportunity to go again, and cover the future rules required when we know we need to.

Kev. Point taken re the Rugby ball. It was owned by one of the lads with Sean and it won't be coming again. You did mention the Red Flag last year and we didn't act upon it this year. But I agree we should buy one for track incidents..
I disagree about the Quad & bikes. If we rope of the same area, there's no reason why it can't be used. Great pit lane tool too...These two issues were generated by the kids.. but they were quickly put right..
As you say, these will be taken as improvements.
One good point that has been raised is that if we're to abide by stringent track rules in the future, then surely some responsibility lies with Rallydrive to improve facilities?? The track is cheap and cheerful (just how we like it)... and we get the corresponding levels of track facility..
Dave, keep us info'd on Howards response.

Top event, well orginaized, the only thing i thought was odd was the amount of people allowed to just walk on the track.... Your lads did a grand job... High vis and all!!!
And some of those carema guys got a little to close for comfort sometimes...
Otherwise a proper top day....... canny wait to do it again....especially at that price....
TOP TIP:- The nearest super unleaded is 10 miles away so make sure you take off when required as i nearly ran out!!!
