Seen an 80k merc do some laps on a track day and come into the pits with the brakes smoking and squeeking absolutly shafted they were.

If anyone seriously believes that a Scoob will out handle a 911, then you know bugger all about handling dynamics and chassis design. Scoobs, always have been and always will be, basically a 4 door tin top saloon. It has fantastic grip, it does not have fantastic handling - in fact they are very average. Go learn to drive properly and then appreciate what a 911 is capable of - in the right hands.

The other thing to note that it is easier for an average driver to extract 90% of the performance of a Scoob, than it is in a 911. Learning to extract the final 10% from the 911 is what makes it such a rewarding car and is why they remain the car of choice for many professional drivers.

I'd say 'decidedly average' is to harsh. If it comes across that way you've been spoiled with what you get to drive every day

That's going by something like an astra as average - very little feedback with throttle, brakes or steering. and reasonable mechanical grip.

On the track the impreza is not great, but on the road the rewarding feeling from driving it makes it a good handling car imo.

Oops, deja vous... anyone get the feeling a similar thread might have been done before

2 pages without any name calling and personal insults is good though

The terms "handling" and "ride" are subjective and qualitative assessments.

The only real quantifiable measure would be grip.

An Impreza has more grip than an MX-5 but the consensus of opinion is that an MX-5 has more entertaining handling.

In My opinion, a 997 will have more grip than an Impreza (in the dry) and have more entertaining handling.

In terms of "grip" the Porsche will have more rubber touching the tarmac too.

19inch rims with 285 rear section tyres.

Out of the box they have average handling. You can tweek and you can play around, but that doesn't hide the flaws in the chassis. 6 years of ownership, 2 cars, 120K+ miles and numerous track days didn't change my mind.

Don't get me wrong - I love the Impreza, but you do have to put it into context and it isn't going to challenge a 997. It is not in the same league. I have miles more fun driving an Elise on track than I do a Scoob. In terms of handling, my RX8 is way better than either Scoob that I owned.

I have the same thoughts with my 205. The scoob never felt comfy on track, brakes always on the point of failing and too much understeer. Dont get me wrong it was quick, but the weak points were often found when chansing 993RS's or 996/997's.

A video of me chasing a 993 if you're bored.

The scooby copes well with bumps and uneven roads, and is forgiving if you mess up. Have you ever seen a airiel atom on the road? No because its a track car and is a pig to drive on british roads!

well said dude end of day the impreza a world leading rally car with sublime handling with the rite mods, any1 who knows anythin about cars knows the set up of a 911/996/997 is all wrong for handling the engines in the wrong place for weight distribution being over the rear wheels plus its rear wheel drive and has totally different driving characteristics to a 4wd, end of day should be good fun an if he beats u jus mod ur car an go again, ha ha an dont let him forget the price difference in vehicles

It's as close to a rally car as a 911 I guess.

Ah so they have the engine in the wrong place, no wonder they've been getting it so wrong for all these years...no wonder they never win any races.

never said they wernt any good mate but it is known fact that it messes up the weight distribution, mid engined cars the best, its taken up until the newer porsches to get it anywhere near rite, the only reason they wont change were the engine is is thru tradition in the 911 range, they changed it with the carrera gt, best porsche to date and that is a mid engined car, but it also cost 330 000

Yep, those 911 2.7 RS, the 964 RS and 993 RS poor handling dogs the lots of em.

I think you'll find they just need a change of driving style, something your gorilla Impreza driver i'll never understand.

Look, you are just dillusional if you think an a Standard Impreza will out handle a 911.

Out of interest, the engine maybe in the back, but a modern 911 handling is sublime.

BTW the 911 is consistantly voted as the best car of all time, so they must be getting something right.

I love scooby's and have had a few now, and if you spend alot of cash you can make them handle well.

So ok, scoobys might not be the best handling car out there, but have a look here, Look at the company the scoobs in, and look at what it's faster than, There is no doubt that for the cost of owning a subaru it's a very fast car....
