Danny question about the rears... will they fit ok on MY02 WRX?

I remember when I was looking into gettin STi Brembos the rears werent a direct fit, you needed STi rear hubs and brackets... is it the same story with the Wilwoods do you know??

I'm "almost" certain the rears will fit fine.

It's only the classics that need different brackets that I'm looking into supplying as an option.

Took a read back and answered the question... think I'll stick with the black. Altho what are ppl's thought on getting them professionally sprayed with heat proof paint?? Would look awsome colour coded to the car!

changed my preference again... after looking at Borats again its gotta be the drilled also (eventho they are prone to crack round the holes, I'll take a chance for tart-value!

Thinking ahead tho if and when they crack... replacement discs... will take 6-8 weeks to deliver??? Thats a long time to drive round on fooked discs!

can anyone confirm if this is going ahead? Are replacement disks etc easy enough got or is it another 6-8 week wait?

Do these perform, brake etc as well or better or far far better than a set of brembros?

Echo that... is this happening??? Really desperate for anchors!

But to answer one of your questions dmc1980, these will stop the car a lot better than Brembos... if this ever happens?!

Got intouch with Wilwood myself to enquire and they will only sell to UK traders so there's no getting these unless the GB happens (or you know a UK trader?)

Really sorry for the supposed lack of interest on my part. I'm currently going through a house move.

I'm still good to run the group buy and have sorted out all the issues from first run (missing bits, faster delivery, better packaging etc) so if we can just get a couple more interested I can start taking money and placing orders.

I'm not sure how often I can get on here in the next few weeks but if anyone has any questions or would like to discuss anything related to this GB please either email me on danny@scoobycity.co.uk or phone/text 07739178234

Time for an update,
for the record I have a 1993 WRX wagon.

Bought a complete front/rear set with drilled discs a montha ago now, I finally got them into the garage to have them fitted today. The fronts went on no problem, just a few minor adjustments needed to a shield behind them that was rubbing.

The rears were a problem, could not get them fitted. Like danny said the problem is the brackets. I have been sent some brackets for a new age impreza which will not fit my classic. I have a set of dyney's classic to new age rear conversion brackets and got the mechanic to try them with these but this would not fit either.

The conclusion is that I need to get hold of a set of wilwood classic rear brackets and then these willl pop straight on. Have emailed wilwood about getting it sorted so hopefully I can get a fix on this in a week or so.

Ohh, and by the way, I got mine from gruppe-S. Very quick service and good price to match. If you go for the rears then make sure they include the correct brackets for a classic (if you have a classic). I did'nt think of this at the time.

Danny are you also going thru Gruppe-S??

Just wondering how soon the order can be put in... it doesnt seem to be sparking much more interest, I think only 5 or so ppl are interested?

Can the deal still be done with such a low number??

Had another look at this kit for the rears this morning, not sure my mechanic was correct when he said there was "no chance" of it fitting with dyneys brackets. I'm taking it into my garage tonight to have a play with it, will let you know as to the outcome.

OK chaps time for a quick update.
Had the rears off last night for a good look at them. It seems they do fit out of the box after all.

The problem the mechanic had was that he was trying to use Dyneys brackets with them, these are not in fact needed.
All the USA cars come with single pot rear calipers as standard, just like my 1993 WRX, and this kit is meant for the US WRX.

I got the discs and calipers off and had a look at the fitment, you do need to angle grind part of the mounting bracket on the car down for the wilwood caliper to fit but this is explained in the installation manual. Aside from this you just need to remove the sheild that is fitted around the old discs, easy bob with chisel and hammer as its spot welded.

Did a dry run last night and fitment looked good. Will complete the job today, fi the brake lines and bleed the system and report back when its all done with pictures.

Well Saturday rained cats and dogs, got the calipers off and discs out and then it monsooned on me. Aborted and decided to get them fitted. I have had a very good look at this now and can see absolutely no reason why they will not fit, caliper bracket fits the stock (1993) mounting holes perfectly (you just have to grind a little bit off the mounting point as detailed in the fitting instructions) and when bolted on the caliper clears the disc perfectly so the distance from the centre appears to be spot on.
Having them fitted tomorrow at a local garage.
One word of caution though, The USA WRX has single pot rear calipers as standard (even current model I believe), so it MAY be a problem to fit these rears to any WRX which has 2 pot rear calipers as standard, its well worth clearing this up before buying them.

Also, and this may put the GB in jeapordy, I've found a very reasonably priced set of 8 pots available:
http://www.2modified.com/impreza-gc8...m-p-11553.html

They come in 330mm and 356mm discs and cost just £1049. Apparently the discs and pads are 100% compatible with AP products.

The story behind them is that some chinese company have ripped off AP's dimensions for discs and pads and made some 8 pot calipers to fit them. The company calls itself D2 racing, which again is ripped from an ex german mobile phone company who used to sponsor merc-benz in a race series. They have even ripped the phone company's logo and actually have nothing at all to do with merc-benz or the race series.

However the brakes do look pretty trick. Personally I'm happy with the wilwoods as you get a matching set of front and rear and you know they are well made in the USA, as opposed to an unknown quality of components used by this 'new' chinese manufacturer. The skyline community do rate these D2 brakes pretty highly though.

Have emailed for colour options and a few other details.

Would buying relatively unknown brakes be wise is my only concern..!

Update 2/10/06: Had email back from this company which rules them out for me, quote:

Hi Jason,

being such a new product on these shores, they arent the most readily
available item

They are a lovely dark purple colour and come with 1 year warranty

They are weighing a similar kit this PM to find out the rough weight for you.

If you are willing to wait a month or 2 then we can order a kit for
the next sea shipment with just a 30% deposit, if you want a kit
expressed shipped then its an extra £120 ish by Air

Kind Regards

John
