we wont win any major championship whilst we have 'prima-donna' esque players who just havent got the bottle.. your average bloke would run his heart and lungs out to play for his country, these divs go on about its a childhood dream realised etc etc then they say ooo it was sooo hot! Becks plays in Spain, Owen has too, they are professional footy players FFS! if I or you had as many 'bad days at the office' as these tw@ts, we would be sacked!

Very true hectic, but also rather amusing coming from someone who works for SKY and I don't refer to you

I think you have no idea what it takes to run about as they do.

Thumbs down

Sven £4m pa, Klinsman £1.7m pa, Scolari £250k pa...

I blame the blazered ***** at the FA who picked a ****e manager who has never achieved anything of note, paid him more than any other manager in history, even world cup winning managers, and will now repeat the feat with a mediocre english manager (decent man, good coach, but he's a no 2 that's all) to appease the gutter press who bayed for an english manager rather than the best manager. My hope is that MacLaren's inadequacies at the top level are exposed in Euro 08 in time for a new manager to be put in for the following World cup. I don't wish him any personal ill it's just that he's not what we need.

When you compare what even an inexperienced Jack Charlton did with ireland in the WC 90 with a team of premiership rejects and reserves through instilling tremendous team spirit - to what sven did with a bunch of good (not great) and highly paid players who unfortunately believed all the ***** that was in the press about the "golden generation" etc it's enough to make you weep.

Question

Re having no idea about running about like they do.

His point is still valid as you have to compare them with their peers not fat blokes like us typing on a forum.Germany, for instance, were full of far more running and in comparison to England were still going strong at the end of games generally

But they set out with a formation that is designed to get the team attacking with flowing football. Our formation was negative and set out to contain the other team not attack them. We see week in week out that these players can run and play at the highest tempo so what changes when they go to play for England? It's down to the manager to set the team out and send them out to play in a style.

Which Premiership was that then?

Agreed with STi, If England play football like we do in England then we would be a match for most countries but when we go out playing a boring continental style of football we will rarely threaten the opposition. Its not going to win us games with the type of squad we have.

Smart alec - Div 1 then, happy? Got any other incisive points you'd like to make? Thought not...:

Re STi - Can't agree, I'm afraid - you are ignoring the opposition's abilities and just putting it all down to England not performing - at this level the hustle and bustle style of the premiership would soon get exposed. They could barely stand up at the end of these games despite Sven's contained ( AKA rubbish) style.

It's a shame because I know I would far prefer to watch a top premiership style game than any continental catenaccio style bolx, but Italy last night showed that they can do both and underlined the the gulf between us at WC level - sadly Germany or Italy would have spanked England whatever style they played IMHO.

Oh well, there's always next time...
