There's me thinking it was Ruud van Nistlerooy - I was perplexed at why Bubba was refering to a sport he refused to have any involvement in

And it's true, my Impreza has no rattles. The turbo heat shield used to buzz when pulling away, but I've fixed that.
All you can hear is silence, oh, and the horrendous drone of the tyre roar/road noise.

I think you may be confusing performance with handling. There is no question that the new age STi has better performance and that, given a suitable track with a good surface etc., it would be expected to lap somewhat more quickly than the standard classic. However, in terms of handling I have to say that my MY03 STi was probably the worst handling car I have ever owned and on most real roads where handling and confidence in the car are at a premium because of potholes, bumps, on coming traffic, and basically no room to take the risk of making a mistake I would be confident that my MY99 was able to make much better progress.

"I don't like my Scooby, my hairdressers car handled much better, i'll buy a wagon and an MX-5 (even ****ter hairdressers car) instead" although i like ST's but they are a bit "Macho".

How did your parents take the news ? I bet your Dad was bit funny when he first met your fella.

Owned both an MY00 and a JDM MY03 STi (harder suspension) and the 03 is the better handling car, though it is harsher it does grip more and give better feedback through the steering.
All i can say if you were not impressed with the handling of the 03 is that it needed the geometry set up correctly as it was probably out.

I can't speak for the JDM STi and I am aware that many people managed to return their STI to some reasonable level of handling by modifying the suspension. Perhaps the JDM cars did not suffer from the same fault as the UK car. Mine was repeatedly checked, and aligned, by Subaru dealers and it eventually came to the "they're all like that sir..." thing. However, I maintain my position which is that the 03 STi was the worst handling car I ever owned and was significantly less able in that department than the classic car, which was a great car to drive. I know that I am not the only person to be of this opinion and those I have talked to report the same problems as I experienced so I don't think the problems were confined to just one car.

I am getting rid and buying a classic wagon AND a sportscar for those fun days in the summer (a nice red MX5 springs to mind). I might even settle for a Focus ST but they are a bit too blue collar and macho image for me

Maybe you just got a bad one (or maybe i got a good one )
Utter rubbish. An ex boyfriend ran an S4 and it was built like a brick. Compared to the Impreza it made it feel like a plastic kit model. German cars are better built than Jap crap; period.

As i said... maybe i got a good one (or maybe you got a bad one)

I can only talk for my own experiences... not others. My new 06 scoob has felt much more solid than the Golf / Jetta / S3 / Focus ST / Type R that i test drove before hand.. and thats without taking into account that the ride is much harder in the STi than any of the above.

I will be honest though... i do have a badly built CD case in my glove box thats annoying!! (must be german )
