Red Morris Marina 1.3, Cream Austin Mini 998.......automatic , 4 Metros . My old man, God rest his soul, was a workshop manager with Mumfords who sold BL wares. The counselling has helped . His saving grace was a yellow and black MK1 Capri...though I was barely a twinkle in his eye.

My dad had an orange Lada which he bought off my Uncle for a couple of hundred quid, the heater was broken so we used to freeze in the winter.

Christ, where to start
My stepdad had a Simca (1502?), followed by a couple of Austin Maxi's and then a Talbot Alpine, afer that he progressed to volkswagen passats which were OK.
My dad on the other hand had 2.5Pi Triumph, followed by a Lancia Beta HPE a couple of SD1 rovers, and a couple of Range Rover.
Until quite recently my mum had a 1.6 Maestro Automatic, a truly awful car
There have been a few good ones as well, including original cooper s and lancia fulvia

Austin A30 803cc and 28bhp. Hydro-mechanical brakes. What little synchromesh the gearbox had had in 1955 had long gone. 5.20 x 13 remould crossply tyres. A dynamo that punted out 18 amps maximum, so if you drove in traffic you couldn't have the headlights and heater blower on at the same time

The Ones I remember
Hillman Husky
Ford Anglia (Pale Blue with White Roof and a Bright Orange Fibreglass flip front!!!)
Morris Marina 1.3 Coupe
Rover P6 2200SC
Austin Allegro (Bought as temporarary run around and had for 5 years, in the end there wasn't a straight panel on it and it used more oil than petrol, oh, and it had the square steering wheel)
Renault 12 (Hand painted yellow, again it was another temporary run around that lasted till it wouldn't pass an MOT)
And finally another Morris Marina cheapy but at least it was the 1.8 this time

I love all these old 70s cars! The Marina coupe was quite groovy... no worse than a capri really. In some ways at least. And the Princess was a good car in many ways... lovely ride, hugely spacious in the back, not a bad family car I reckon.
I'd quite like one now, a 2200 perhaps... king of the road in one of those babies.
And surely a p6 isn't uncool? Icy!

If the P6 had been a V8 or any colour other than brown and not an Auto I might have left it off the list but I don't think it was the best one to go for. My Dad was a typical mechanic, spent all his time working on cars so only worked on his own when it broke, and any car he bought was always done on the spur of the moment because the last one was beyond repair. I don't ever remeber him selling a car for more than it's scrap value! Still, the overall depreciation of everything he's ever owned has probably been less than some people have on a year old STI
