If I'm wanting to order the 18g with the relevant pipes for the newage (at the Scoobyshop price) do I just need to ring your mobile Andy or should I wait for "business hours" after the weekend?

Frayz...........I asked the same question. Andy said the sti TMIC was good for 400 bhp so thats good enough for me as I wont be going any further with the car now.

I've found that the later STi TMIC (V7 onwards) to be very good with temps but not so with boost above 1.3/4 bar. There have been several reports of the TMIC's splitting with too much boost.

I think that's luck of the draw Floyd, I've been putting 1.5bar through mine for 20k now with no issues <touches wood>

I appreciate your comments regarding "just because its an upgrade doesnt make it better" but like you say yourself "its only from what youve read on the internet"

I’ve done tests with the STi8 TMIC and measured the temps but it only applies to my mods – air box segregation, bigger scoop, undertray sealing etc. The temps rose at idle/standstill but would fall to within 2-3 degrees of ambient within about 200 meters. Temps were really well controlled on track too.

I bought an APS TMIC and it was basically a big mistake. I should have gone for a FMIC straight away, but I couldn't stretch the funds..
Had it remapped and it made no difference on the dyno. The heat however was crazy, the tmic was RED hot...
Anyhow, I eventually sold it (after the major price drop from APS), and got the APS 725DR and haven't looked back since.
So, stay with the STI TMIC unless your going to go FMIC...

Just giving you an update.
It appears you were quite correct regarding the APS topmounted cooler. Its very very poor indeed. Much worse than an STI 8 cooler.
Ambients of 14 deg c showed the following results on a JDM STI 8
Startup and idle for 2 min.
Stock cooler showed 2 deg above ambient
APS cooler showed 10-12 deg above ambient
Crusing at 50mph
Stock cooler showed ambient temps within half a degree
APS cooler showed 12 - 14 deg above ambient.
Underload in 5th/6th gear at motorway speeds and above
Stock cooler showed a maximum of 38 deg
APS cooler didnt drop below 40deg at anytime and rose rapidly above 50deg to the point the accelerator was backed off. The APS cooler would not drop below 40deg at anytime under any driving style once the engine was warm.
These results were logged on 2 different data units, one was observed on a nomad ACT gauge.
The other was logged direct from the ecu via laptop and thermocouple.
How anyone can sell this as an upgrade is beyond beleif. A custom front mount is in the making

Sorry to hear all didn't go as planned
FMIC is the way to go, espically in this weather, I just wish I had one fitted to my car.
Defiantly worth referencing back to this page when other users are thinking of changing there TMIC.

Hi guys sorry to butt in on this thread, up untill reading this thread i was ordering a ihi vf34, after what you are all saying the td05-18g sounds a better option. Cant seem to find a conclusive answer which turbo is best to go for??? HELP PLEASE!!!!!

I can only speak as I find and after starting this thread I was in truth no nearer coming to a decision between the 18G and 20G.
I dont know what your mods are but I ditched the VF35 in favour of the 18G. Good mid range punch which pulls a lot harder to the red line and spool appears to be in line with my old set up (more or less).
I still wonder what the 20G would have been like but the respected tuners that I asked for advice all suggested the 18G for a road use car. All in all I'm pretty happy.
