Even if we do get rid of Ruud, I honestly don't see us bringing in an individual who will replace such. Torres would be suitable, but I don't think we have the pulling power of the past.

I may be jumping the gun, but I see the summer being a rather non-event in terms of bringing in quality players to bolster the side.
Two months on, and we're still stuck in the same situation.

I think (and i hope i am very wrong) we'll end up with 1 new midfielder, Ruud will leave, and he won't be replaced.

Seems like nobody is keen on moving at the moment. Will love to see Torres join, can't see it unfortunately

Great isn't it I remember the days when we wanted someone we usually got them, it all started going pear shaped the day that bald **** Kenyon tried to get Ronaldinho for a couple of grand, some portable goalposts and last seasons kit and a bag of ***** FFS, doesn't really show much sign of improving either, now theres talk of a £25m kitty, we had that before the Obi money came in, get rid of sulking horse and I make that £50m ish.

Fergie stated at the w/e that if he can't get who he wants he is happy with what he's got, I don't like to question the man but come on Alex look around see whats going on, at this stage we will finish 4th or possibly 5th with Spurs leaping above us.

Glazers get "someone else's" cash out FFS.
Get Lippi in.
Get Queiroz out - ****e tactics.
Give Foster a run, **** the WBA keeper he aint worth 4 mil
Giggs plays central nowadays so why not have gone for Duff, we need another winger, Ronny can play either side so one of Lennon/Ribery/Duff would have been nice, Utd have always played with wingers.
Sell Ruud he doesnt want to be there and get Torres in, he does want to be there, or so they say.
Start playing football again !! like the good old days.
Sadly without Rooney we are an average football team.

Nail, head and hit comes to mind.

Torres is set to hold a press conference tomorrow morning. From what I've read, if he wants to leave, Atletico have told him that he has to announce it himself, so there's no backlash towards them.

Atletico are playing it down as a 'normal press conference', but you'd think if it were normal he/they would hold one over in Germany on their pre-season tour, rather than hours before they leave - just a thought.

Looks like Carrick is finally coming for a way overated £15m, desperate buying to satisfy the fans ??, still need an enforcer in midfield.

We need Carrick, doubt its desperate buying to satisfy fans, more like buying to shore up a lightweight midfield.

A midfield that is put to shame by even liverpools midfield

We need a full team again, Carricks a step in the right direction.

I agree though we need a ball winner, Viera for me, cheap and will do the business for a couple of seasons while we perhaps pursue Diarra in future years.

Could do with a striker, not sure who it will be though. I reckon Torres will move next summer.

Considering we've been after him since the start of the World Cup, I wouldn't class it as a panic buy.

The Mirror claims we've been in talks with Javier Mascherano's agent. A central midfield pairing of him and Carrick would be a vast improvement.

I don't think the Torres saga is dead in the water either - we'll have to wait and see.

I meant desperate (never used the word panic, carrick is hardly a panic buy) as in paying over the odds, although I do think if we didn't buy anyone the natives would have been very restless, I don't subscribe to SAF' theory that he would be happy with the squad he has, don't get me wrong I want Carrick at Old T, I like a player that can pass a ball 30-40 yard along the floor bisecting the midfield/defense, I just think we had to pay over the top and on the other hand we cave in to Madrid for Ruud, allegedly.
I also want a Gattuso style enforcer as well, and dont mention Fletch FFS Lol.

Scholesy looked back to his best against Celtic on Weds night, some nice passing going on there.

not meant as a pop mate, but i don't think you realise what a good player you've bought there.

as a spurs fan i'm fooking gutted he's gone as i believe he was the main reason we done so well last season.

can't help but look at it from an england team point of view that man u should turn him into an even better player

Sorry, I would associate panic and desperate as virtually the same thing, but there's no point in splitting hairs.

Either way, I'm fairly sure he'll be worth what we've paid. His vision is outstanding, and I expect Rooney and whoever it may be to benefit greatly from that, plus he's only 25.

I think Mascherano would do a fantastic job in there, and he's even younger.

why not when you're so good at it

Agreed on Mascherano, hopefully Heinze will tell him what a great club it is and get him onboard, as long as he doesn't ask Veron for his opinion...

I'm hoping Carrick will fill the gap our midfield has so badly needed filling for so long. I'm quite excited to see how he gets on. To be honest, maybe another striker, but I think we have a fairly good selection of forwards as it is. Fergie has now stated that he is going to give Rossi his chance, and he'll certainly want to prove himself. Smith is another player who will need to prove himself, especially as hes got his striker position back.

Hargreaves would have been a good signing though.

Well transfer window isn't closed yet so who knows.

I'm sure there will be attempts at more signings yet. Typically when united sign a player you rarely hear too much about it until they sign so wait and see I guess.

Carrick will be a good worthwhile addition. Maybe Smith will develop into the ball winner, he was doing well at times last year. Rio could play the position as well. That must be an option with possible Heinze/Brown/Vidic as a central pairing, Evra at left back depending how he gets on.

I'd like to see that idea trialled personally. I think it will be an improved team from last year, Ruud going opens up the opportunity for us to play a faster style of attack on the counter as he made our style of play very rigid.

You might see the midfield chipping in with more goals this year now he has gone.

Nothing against Ruud of course, he was fantastic for us, but just looking on the bright side and thinking the timing might be right for him to have gone.

So with Smith & Rooney Utd should finish most games with 9 players on the park.

Hope They manage to finish in the top 6

Good bit of business for Tottenham Id say. £20mil could have landed a better midfielder IMO. Dont ask me to name someone though...lol

Bad for Engerland though. No doubt SAF will turn him into a petulant, self-obsessed ***** like he does with all his "youngsters"

People forget we got 12 mil from Chelski for doing nothing. So in effect Carrick has come at an outlay of 6 mill. If we have 25 mil to spend at the start of all this then add in the 4mil extra from Ruud and SAF has 30 mil still available if you believe what has been said.

Yeah - but you've got to finance your "American" debts too

What's it like being a cash cow for an American Football team ?

It was owed to us.

Not our business how many russian girls worked in a brothel to earn it is it

£18.6m is a lot though, but if it improves the team then it could be good value!

True, personally though I think he will turn out to be a Lampard kind of signing, when Chelsea paid 11m for him everyone was in disbelief now its all forgotten after a lot of consistent performances.
