Being serious, I've spent a little fortune having my engine fully rebuilt
by API and I would also like some sort of assurances.
I don't think that's too much to ask.

Scoobfan, I'm in the same boat, just had my engine rebuilt 3000 miles ago at AS Performance.
I have contacted some people on Ebay who have bought the same chip, here are what they said -
(1)
i have now fitted the chip but due to me havin to let the ecu get used to the map i cant really tell u how much difference it has made the car is jerking less and less everyday when under more boost as the ecu learns its new parimeters i must say it does feel like the boost comes in alot earlier and the engine seems to be alot torquer i will inform u of what it is like when the ecu and chip have fully settled in i will also be taking it to a rolling road to find out what my power increase is when i do that i am not sure but i will let u know if u wish?
(2)
i have a wagon so the boost comes in at just over 2000 rpm anyway. yes it pulls alot harder than the standard 0.7 bar i was running before. the chip i put in was setup for 98-99 octane fuel so ive never worried too much about detonation , its alot smoother then it used to be without the chip. not sure on the fuel to air.
I don't expect to here from Andy at ESL until tomorrow as I have emailed his work address. As soon as he replies, I'll post it on here.

OK - Had an email from Andys colleague, Spencer. Andy isn't back until Tuesday, so that's why emails havn't been answered just yet.
Here's what he said -
Andy knows the more about ESL map specifics for the impreza than I do, but
there isn't an easy answer to the question "what air to fuel ratio does it
run". The air to fuel ratio is a map which varies on other parameters, e.g.
rpm and engine load, so there is no simple, single answer to this question.
The fuel and ignition timing have been adjusted to suit UK super unleaded
fuels without the need for octane booster - this is probably the best answer
to give.

Ok - doing a quick search on SN, and it appears that the AFR is dependent on the load and rpm. I'll ring Andy on Tuesday to get more info.
Have also found this from Scoobymatto in another thread -
Have one of these fitted to my 93 WRX,Highly recomend these esl chips, havent had any problems at all with it, gave a great increse in performance for the money, Gave 286bhp on the rollers with just a full decat and k/n induction. Well worth the money.

ditto !
Only needed 1 more person!
OK - We only need 3 more people, and a few are interested. We'll try and keep it going until we reach 10, but I don't want it going on forever!!!!
Really want to get mine and get rid of the fuel cut that's been doing my nut!!

Hi. The software generates a file which is emailed to us, and we send you a new set of eproms that contain your map to plug into the board. As such, no cable is required.
Cheers
Andy
ESL
So how is any diagnosis done if its not pluged into your ecu .

I believe that the option of changing the software by yourself is for those who are very competent at mapping their own cars for their own modifications.
The likes of me, who has no experience tweaking maps would stay far away! You can get other modifications done, ie different IC or injectors or map sensor and take it to their base where they would remap and rescale everything to suit your cars individual needs.
Hope this answers you Q riosingh!!

There are 256 defined AFR target sites in the fuel map that are a function of engine load and engine speed. The ECU goes further and interpolates linearly between these. So the target AFR varies with rpm and the amount of air going into the engine, the engine wouldnt last long if there was a single value in all the map sites :-)
The fuel map used is slightly leaner than the one used in the UK turbo and very similar to the Z4 (260PS wrx). When custom mapping more fuel can be taken out but you need a wideband lambda in place to ensure it doesnt run lean. The postal map tends towards the conservative to ensure safe running.
Hope this answers any Q's to do with the AFR!

As has been said, its supposed to raise boost significantly even over a Z4 map.
When are we going to close the buy and order these?

I was going to close it on Friday TBH, really want mine fitted ASAP!!
We've only got 4 at the mo, just need 1 more, then we'll close it and settle for £175.
We'll leave it until Sunday night, so we can pay for them on Sunday night / Monday morning, should receieve them by the weekend!
Nick.

The last 3 will only buy if it gets to £150!! If it doesn't reach 10, the last 3 will not buy for £175!! Hence 1 more to get £175, or 3 more for £150!

You might make 10 before you make 5, if you see what I mean?
Could always renegotiate the £150 price for 8?
