god knows what else could be wrong with it, you need to take the car to an independet garage or if you are in the aa or rac get them to inspect the vehicle, then take the report back to the dealer and get all the problems sorted, dont drive it though until it has been checked because the sales guy will just be able to say you could have wrecked the car after buying it!
two days after having it i had to get the front brakes changed cause they were knackered, and then i found out about the gaskets! i am with the rac so will give that a thought as well.

well lets see how i get on with the tosser tomorrow, i have already asked him for my money back which he has refused to do, i get a horrible feeling this sale has not gone through the books properly. plus a mechanic with only a mobile for a contact number, does that sound dodgy to you?

Over the last few days there have been a string of new users posting that they want to buy some Jap import for £2.5k and this has been followed up with the usual "don't do it" advice from many. Now I know that imports aren't a problem in themselves but that they can tend to be prone to problems if not treated well. The same also applies to UK cars but to a lesser degree and with an import you can never tell what petrol it has been run on for example.

Is it, perhaps, a worthwhile exercise for some of the mods or the webmaster to create a sticky based on the advice posted in previous threads on the matter? Firstly it might save incidents like this and secondly it will save everyone having to post the same info everytime a new user appears wanting to buy an import and fit a vent to atmos BOV leaving him with not a penny in the bank to cover for the almost inevitable disaster.

Even if he is there does seem to be a general demand for the sort of info that might prevent such things happening.

The fact is that a young chap is going to want a fast car and he will have mates tell him or will have read about Jap imports and how you can keep an Impreza for the same money as a Nova etc. However, I think most would agree that for a younger person on a limited budget the way to go, though it may not be the most flash route, is to try and get a good, unmodified, FSH UK car as then you stand a chance of at least getting something that drives.

i've already told the bf he wants to go up there later with his mate and their fellow baseball bats, but instead he would prefer it the trading standards deal with him instead.
the car is fixed gaz, checked to make sure no more bubbles were coming out, one way to know if head gasket has gone or not, see us women know somethings, plus helps my dad was a mechanic for 35 years
next problem is getting car taxed, bf only went and sent the green bit of the reg doc to the dvla and now they say he has to reregister and its gonna take 2 weeks and £19 to do. wouldn't mind so much but the tax ran out yesterday

Hope the cars fine.. I'd be pretty worried that they've put crap gaskets in it though!! i would only put proper gaskets in mine and have the work done by a reputable firm.. Hope it all works out ok though

i think bf has learnt his lesson guys and will only go to reputable places from now on, and not back street yardies
i told him not to do it and to take it to api impreza, he was supposed to have gone there to get car derestricted but had to cancel it cause of gaskets, now they quoted me £800, to me it is worth paying that much to know that the job has been done properly and by someone who knows what they are doing on jap cars. lets hope he listens to me next time hey
