I lost all respect for Alan Shearer when his dirty tactics lost us the game against Argentina in France in '98

Beckham may deservedly have got himself sent off for behaving like a stroppy child

But it was Shearer's elbow in the goalkeeper's face that got Campbells goal disallowed Then once again he demonstrated the teflon coating which served him so well in the World Cup build up (Neil Lennon?) by escaping the media witch hunt scot free

Although having said all that, I will continue to admire him for not once, but twice telling ManUre to **** Off

IMHO if he hadn't elbowed the keeper the keeper would have got to it so there wouldn't have been a goal anyway!

it was worth a try in my eyes

(Neil Lennon?)
Aah, the Angel of Celtic Park...

What a nice bloke.

For those of you who weren't at the game, as I was (that's most of you in here plus the Media that speculated as to events), Lennon had fouled Al all night, and indeed was doing just that when Al brushed him away. He was lucky Al didn't kill the little pratt!

Having observed Mr Lennon's footballing 'skills' when he's visited Anfield back when he wore a Leicester shirt, I am fully prepared to believe that he had been trying to break Shearer's legs all night, my point was more about the fact that most other players would have at least been facing charges from the FA.

But what about the ones who have hounded Shearer across Football piches in all 4 corners? How about the Refs who quite obviously don't like him? Rennie for example, sending Al off against Villa for nothing, whilst all the Villa players in the vicinity of the challenge, stood around amazed. The player Al was almost in contact with, Taylor (IIRC), put his hands to his face and shook his head in disbelief.

Alan Shearer's a hero to many, but he's had to put up with so much cr@p over the years, it's not true. Booed by fans one week whilst playing for Blackburn/NUFC and then hailed as a king a few days later when he scored for England. England v Holland in Euro96 anyone?

what a load of bull about Refs. Shearer got away with more than pretty much any player ever due to his standing as England Captain.

as for you second point.... He had it easy compared to somebody like Beckham.

climb out of his **** and see him for what he was. A great player but not the saint you make him out to be.

I suppose you've seen most of the games he's played in the last 10 years, so are eminently qualified to speak on the issue? No, thought not...

Beckham had it bad for a few months. Al was getting booed more or less from his arrival at Blackburn, through to his last game at Sunderland.

He's no saint, but he doesn't deserve the rubbish that's dished out. Having said that, he hasn't complained. He just got/gets on with it. Even though he's now retired, he's still being discussed by non NUFC fans. Rather implies he's got under a few skins!

Oh and whilst I'd hardly say I know Al, I've had Lunch with him twice. And I don't mean a Sportsman's Dinner type of event, but just the 2 of us once and 4 of us on the second occasion. Both times he was very keen to discuss my Imprezas and cars in general. No pretensions, or airs and graces. He's a genuinely nice bloke, a feeling backed by most who've met him.

You telling me that any stick Sheaer has had from fans is anything like what Beckham had to endure? Not a chance! The abuse Beckham got was a million times worse than anything I've seen or heard Shearer get. Fact is he was/is the darling of the FA.

I'm sure he is a nice bloke I just cant believe anybody can say he got it rough from the fans/FA.

Now, now don't try and put words into my mouth/posts. I never mentioned the FA - you keep bleating about that.

That's better. And I can't believe anyone would say he hasn't had a bad time from the fans. It's even been discussed in the Press and Media, a number of times. What an astounding comment you've made.

HAVING been to the Rovers and Newcastle game I cannot believe the abuse that was given to Alan Shearer. Even our two supposedly worst enemies, Manchester United and Burnley would not have received the kind of treatment given to Alan Shearer.
K Whiteside in a letter to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, Dec 1996

And almost 10 years on it's still being written about...

Shearer normally finds himself booed by opposition supporters for no other reason than he usually scores against them - and he is an exceptional player.
The Evening Chronicle, April 2006

There's no point discussing it any more with someone who hasn't paid attention to Shearer's career. I'll leave the last word to someone who has:

"Alan Shearer was and is a fantastic player, a leader of men. He's someone who gives everything he has for his team and he was my inspiration."
Wayne Rooney, April 2006

The shoulders are too narrow for Al. Probably the body of some little wimp like Ronaldo, Beckham, Giggs etc...

Plus, the light's wrong on the faces, there's too much neck etc etc. Would the creator care to take one of my Photoshop classes at College?
