What was the coolest car your dad had?
#121
My Dad had a Healy 3000. I think it must have been in the 8th century. I don't remember it and he doesn't have any pics, but looking at these pics i realise he must have been cool once

A Morris Eight series E, dont know the year. It was a fine old wagon and I learned to drive and took my test in it. Wish we still had it-worth a bomb now!
I did my first 4 wheel drift in it near our local village. My Dad was not in it at the time though

That's quite a list. A few gems and a few ropey ones in there too.
I should have said in my first post that while I thought the E30 325 was the coolest my old man would probably have pick one of his current trio
330 Clubsport
1972 VX 4/90
Mk I Jag E Type roadster

Coolest thing my dad ever owned was a SuperMirafiori 2000TC
My mum however.....
Capri 2.8i
Astra GTE (had LCD dash rather than dials)
Escort RS1600 (stripes on bonnet)
XR3i
My mother is the epitome of Hyacinth(sp) Bucket, but a screaming petrol head to boot. Family legend has it that she got stopped for speeding on her way to work one day. The 'young' bobby stood by the side of her Capri and started his "Do you know how fast you were going?" routine whereby she cut him off dead, addressed him as sonny, and in her best "telling the kids off voice" told him, at length that, theat she had been driving since before he was born and to go and catch some real criminals as she was very late for work.
Legend has it he apologised "for wasting your time Mrs Cannon"
Don't know how true it is, but all those who know my mum well, nod sagely when the story is recounted.
At present and true to form Dad runs a Mondeo 2.0TDi and Maggie is tearing up Stockley bypass in a 2005 SAAB Aero convertable !!

My Dad can't drive
My Mum has had the following:
Ford 105E
Austin 1100
Triumph 1300
Morris Minor
Triumph Dolomite Sprint
Mk1 (RWD) Mazda 323
Morris Marina
Morris Ital
Mk1 Vauxhall Astra 1.3 Auto
Vauxhall Cavalier
With the exeption of the Vauxhalls, all but the Minor were on their last legs by the time Mum got them
IMO the Minor was the coolest The fact that the Dolly was a nail stopped it from being cool
PS: For all the parents who can't manage to move just one kid around without either a van with windows, or a Chelsea tractor, my parents, my sister & me travelled all over the country for years in the Moggie

Anyone remember the Renault Fuego? My old man had one of these, and they were the coolest cars in the world!!
Come to think of it, he must have been a Renault freak as he had a 5, 16, 20, and 25!
Oh, and the old VW scirroco was cool too!!

My dad had a BSA three wheeler, the one with the big Vee twin engine like the old Morgans. It was all he could afford when he got back from a POW camp in Germany. It was a fine old car and we used to go to all the motor races in it when I was a lad.

I mentioned a yellow and black Mk1 Capri GT in the other thread but Dad owned that before I was born. When I was ten he embarked on a series of restorations including 2 Ford Populars (the mint green one being my favourite), but the highlight was a 1946 'Sit up and beg' Ford Prefect. He was the General Manager of Trathens Coach Company at the time and so had access to the workshop and paint facilities. The car was simply stunning, with the deepest black cellulose finish. It was rumoured to be one of the best examples in the World. It appeared in a couple of Miss Marple films and was then sold to a Japanese collector who wanted to source the best. The car currently resides at a museum in Yokohama.

Looking back at all the cars owned I would have to say the modified Mk2 Mini Cooper S, Blue/Old english white roof. Perhaps the lancia fulvia although I was a little young to remember this, and maybe one of those honda S800 things count as well.

When I was fourteen, my dad's H-reg Carlton GSi 3000 24v rated pretty highly. Then a few years later he had a really early Impreza Turbo in white (!) with full leather interior....
Now is on his 2nd Octavia 4x4 Est (yawn).

Your dad's have no imagination. My dad, as well as some more sensible cars has gone through:
a wooden, 6 wheeled hustler which was a little distinctive, partly by nature of (a) having 6 wheels and (b) having plywood / ash / mahongany bodywork (the clue is in the name!)
a modifiied, fibre-glass shelled, big arch mini minus with a rather pleasant 1430cc tuned lump in it.
he now drives a GTM Libra with a mildly worked over 1.8 K-series. Mid engined, a fair bit stiffer and 50kg lighter than a Mk 1 Elise and now it's properly set-up, better handling too. Sod all this boring "off the shelf" stuff
