TBH I think you probably pi55ed them off straight away by asking about the evidence etc... - I bet they thought 'another know it all who will try and wriggle out of it' - doesnt sound like you did much to endear yourselves to them.

If you were only slightly over the limit, being humble, apologising and basically kissing their ***** can often get you a 'we'll let you off this time, but be more careful in future' rather than a fixed penalty.

There are police out there who victimise bikers, but there are a hell of a lot more bikers who take the pi55, speed everywhere in inappropriate places, then bitch when they get caught about how unfair it is - and before you take offence, my main mode of transport is a 748, and in 10 years of having a license, and owning most sports bikes, I have never been done for speeding and dont have any points.

Thats incorrect i'm afraid, section 25 PACE, which has now been replaced by the Serious and organised crime act, both state that a Police officer can arrest if nececcery under certain conditions, one such condition is if there is doubt over the identity of the offender.

So in this case, if you fail to provide identification and the officer has reason to believe you have given a false name, he can arrest until such a time as your identity can be confirmed

Oh, I've been STOPPED for speeding, just never prosecuted - and this wasnt by the advice of some magic ebook I bought from Ebay or something out the back of a car mag.

Simple things to do :

1. Only speed where it is appropriate - nice open country lanes with good visibility, clear motorways late at night etc... not outside the local school or on a dual carriageway during rush hour.

2. If stopped, apologise, say you didnt realise the speed you were going. Do everything they ask, appear as meek and humble as you can - its only for 5 minutes, they feel better about themselves and their authority, you dont get any points or a fine.

3. Say you have diplomatic immunity.

4. If all else fails, say you have always found men in uniform with beards strangely attractive, and so does your wife ( just in case they are straight ).
