Just to answer your previous point, obviously I was referring to the top end X5 and Cayenne. The lower order models of both marques scream "If only I could have afforded the proper one". Think of it like a 318ci if that helps.

"What a load of tree hugging disabled lesbians...........has broad band just been installed at some camp site for an anti roads protest????
if you want a big car you should be able to buy one....an X5 is VERY little bigger than an estate car in length and width. this thread smacks of anti money and that it.............an X5 say "i spent £45k" and thats your problem.
i dont fancy them much but the more i read stuff like this the more i want one! with the biggest alloys i can find and drug dealer tints.
get back to your treehuts."
That's the best reply of this thread :-) Top marks. I even spat out my morning coffee with laughter !
My money, my choice, my 4x4. If you dont like it, dont tell me as Im not interested, lifes to short to worry about the `have nots`. Road Tax increased to £210 ? No problem, just will move the cost over to my clients.
Ive just brought a L200 Warrior, to tow around my track day car. Going to "bling" that thing up, make it look like the A-Team's van. Just ordered a metal A bar for the front. As to those things killing people, here's an idea, if you dont walk on the road, and look where you going, the car / a-bar wont hit you.

anyway all you guys saying about people hating SUV's because people are jealous that they can afford an X5 is complete and utter crap. My 18 year old friend has a 320ci. He wanted an X5 but had trouble getting insured for one. Now think why would a 18 year old rather have a great big SUV instead of a sports convertible? Because he thinks the X5 is so cool. The X5 is pretty much pointless seeing as the 5 series has more space than it and more trunk room.
They say we will run out of fuel in about 20 years. And fuel prices are going to take quite a incline in the next two years so lets so who will be laughing when your
A. Paying out your nose for fuel
B. Tired of paying out your nose for fuel, sell the SUV and lose a bundle on depreciation.
So you can afford an X5. So what your still considered a bit of a **** as you could have brought a better car for your money that would say you were rich and have brains.

Audilover,
Pickup ? ohhh noooo, I keep calling it my SUV due to the double cab seating ! Oh well. Instead of the A-Team, I'll have to model it off Colt Cievers `Fall Guy` truck ! :-)
If I was to buy a proper SUV, I would now go for the Range Rover Sport. I love the looks, performance and the whole package. Mind you, I also like the American SUV stuff, and would consider a F150 lightening, the really fast version. Whoops, thats pickup too. Perhaps I should just get a Ford P100, that old cortina front, pickup :-)

made me chuckle

Because the quattro in the audi's are actually serving their purpose. Super roadhandling capabilities and being an extremly safe and stabe car in the wet.

Mate your car isnt a SUV its a pickup and no one will have a problem with you as its actually serving its purpose.

X5's serve their purpose too. Some people want a jacked up 5 series. The purpose being simply the higher driving position, the better visibility and the easier access.
Having driven many big SUV's, the X5 is undoubtably one of the best to drive. The fact that many people like the way it looks just ads to the reasons for buying one.
Far from being "crappy", the X5 is one of the best SUV's on the market.
Maybe its different in London, where image is everything, but people forget there are many other parts of the UK where "normal" people live, with different values.
My wife may be changing cars soon. We've got two big dogs so an estate/MPV/SUV is a basic requirement. She would love an X5, but wouldn't even give a 5 seres touring a second look. Why? because she doesn't care that the 5 series touring is cheaper to buy (like for like), better dynamcally has as much space and cheaper to run - she just knows that it looks cool, has a fantastic, high, driving position giving much better visibilty and has greater road presence which maker her feel safer.
It also has more height in the load area which is often discounted when looking at the comparative volumes.
The fact that it will cope better with everything from forest tracks (we do a lot of walking with the dogs) to the ****e weather conditions we endure in the West of Scotland makes it a no-brainer over a rwd estate.
Unless you have lived with an SUV for a fair amount of time, the advantages of the higher driving position are not always apparent.

what purpose does painting a car serve? why not have them all made in white.
who is anyone to judge whether someones purchase is "worth it" to that other person?
any of you married/g.friends?....wear any jewlery do they? why? whats the point....they must be slags showing of their wealth.
if you ask a kid whether he wants to play with a toy mini or a toy monster truck......he's going for the truck....BECAUSE HE THINKS ITS COOL......quite frankly if the biggest problem someone has is that they fail to grow out of the opinion that big chunky cars are cool....that doesnt sound to bad.
(or when you were kids do you bully the ones with trucks telling them their toys were fit for purpose and your toy Ford Cortinia was a better buy?)

ANY car can do what 99% of people need which is get from A to B in comfort.
So now we have car 1 which Mr X likes and car 2 which you like. car 2 may be faster, better built, handle better, etc, etc, etc.
the best car for Mr X is car 1.....because he likes it....how hard is that to grasp?

Also with the Kia you get crappy interior, crappy performance, crappy exterior, crappy ride, and a crappy image.
So let me update the figures.
Audi SUV X5

Max Tow (UB) 750Kg 750Kg n/a

So now try and justify an X5. Especially seeing as the X5 isnt that capable off road and the kia sporting is probably even worse. The audi however can go over all kinds of terrains much better than the X5 and anything the UK can throw at you. The really amusing thing is that english people who live in the country side think they need a SUV to go off road yet how do all those poor countries manage with their 20 year old toyota corollas climbing mountains etc.
An X5 cant do this nor can a Range Rover. A magaxine publication went back to this ski ramp with AWD impreza, bmw's and mercedes, and none of them managed to get even a quarter way up the ramp yet the audi went all the way.

But those were not factors we were bothered about so you can't include them. Actually the ride is very good, the performance is fine for what we need and we don't give a mokey's about image, clearly neither do you or you wouldn't be suggesting an Audi.
Kia image = cheap POS.
Audi image = Understated rival to BMW and mercedes. Fastest growth of the three brands
To even say the audi image is bad or not good obviously shows your living in lala land. Audi A3 won tons of awards. Audi A6 world car of the year and won tons of awards. Audi A8 won tons of award. Most of audi's engine line-up also won tons of awards and got constant praise.
[/quote]
So taking it back to the original factors that were important to the misses - twice as much money to pay far more insuarnce and not have enough stowage space - good buy then - not!
Why? I compared an SUV and the Audi lost. Game Over really.
Mate dont try and twist the facts to make it relate to your situation. I reccomended the audi allroad to Diablo. It had nothing to do with your situation and why you brought a kia. I didnt even know you had one or that you brought one a month ago. As it stands the audi all road is the better car of the three and its shows the flaws and pointlessness of 75% of all SUV's.
You were just trying to be clever. Congrats on the boring car.
