Best thing would be to email Zak at sales@mocomracing.com with a belated request & see how it goes.If he over ordered to put some into stock then you may be ok.

And the fronts will do the same magic as the rears do.

i've said i'm happy to go with the 20mm arb and try it out, was just wondering what other people think between the 2 sizes?
Does that just apply to the classic versions?
I've had a reply from Zak re- 03 STi version but no mention of a delay.

Hello Speedydave, before the toe adjustment what were you unhappy with?

On a classic, if you run a larger front ARB then yes the the rear 22mm adjustable ARB is better suited however, for road use with a standard front ARB the 20mm rear ARB I feel may be better suited. Those in on the group buy are aware that if they are not entirely happy with how it performs we will swap it for the larger bar when we receive stock.

The stock rear ARB with mounting brackets weighs 3.5kgs now the Whiteline 20mm ARB comes in at 500g more, is this additional weight from the 1mm oversize alone? you also need to consider the connecting points which are closer with the Whiteline ARB resulting in a (for want of a better word) stiffer response.

John we have stock of the 22mm ARBs for 01 on Imprezas it's just teh classic fitment that we have only 20mm.

I did have the 22mm bar on the front and the 20mm on the rear (whiteline had labelled the front ARB up incorrectly). At the same time I fitted the ALK, new springs (Eibach Pro Sport kit), dampers (KYB AGX's) and got the alignment and bumpsteer mod done.

If you hammered it around a corner / roundabout it just keeps on gripping and felt really good, but you don't / shouldn't drive like that all the time. I found that steering felt light if you were just accelerating gently, even driving slowly around a car park for example.

It was then that the error with the ARB's was spotted so I re-fitted the OEM front and rear ARB's, keeping with the whiteline drop links and drove it around like that until the 24mm bar eventually arrived. Handling was still 'more of the same' so after speaking with a few people tried a bit of toe-in. Steering still isn't 100% what I'd like, but is a vast improvement, remember this if the guys doing your alignment want to set the fronts to 0 degrees.

Maybe I'm just used to heavy steering with driving old RWD escorts with 205 tyres and quickracks!!

You're probably right, I was given the same advice by Demon Tweeks and then chose to ignore it at a later date!

So long as the rear is larger than the front you should be ok. I'm no expert and I didn't look to see if people having these rear ARB's were ordering the fronts as well.

Sorry for the long reply, I do tend to write novels when I get going!!

Cheers Zak the ARB & mounts turned up this afternoon.Nice bit of packaging for such an awkward shape.

All unpacked

Two spare narrower bushes are for the old standard saddle clamps.

Edit in as it's Sunday night.

And everything is now fitted.

Fitting guide for 22mm Adjustable Rear Anti-Roll Bar & HD mounts

First you need to raise the rear of the car to get enough space to work under the car but keep the car at normal ride height with the weight still on the wheels. Some simple wheel ramps are fine as they should give you enough room to swing the original ARB out from under the car.

A 12mm socket wrench will remove the saddle clamp nuts & bolts and a 14mm spanner and socket wrench will remove the drop-link bolts.
Once these have been removed from both sides, the ARB can be removed although it is slightly awkward since the bar bends around the backbox of the exhaust.

Undo the two 12mm bolts securing the mounting bracket to the chassis & remove.Make a cutaway in the plastic shield as it will help you to get to the bolt & to locate the new bracket later.

Refit the new heavy duty mounts,I had to trim one corner of the HD bracket so it would sit squarely when mounted.Slide the new ARB behind the exhaust pipe and then swing it into place. Use plenty of the white grease on both the inside and outside of the new bushes and clip the new bushes onto the ARB then push the saddle clamps onto the bushes and fix them back onto the new HD mounting brackets.Attach the ARB to the drop-links in one of 3 positions that will determine the 'stiffness' of the ARB :-
1. The outer holes (closest to the ends of the bar) - softer setting
2. The middle holes - closets match to a fixed 22mm bar
3. The inner holes - stiffest setting
I used the middle setting first to see how it alters the cars handling.

Old & New

Thick & Thin
1. The outer hole (closest to the end of the bar) - softest setting
2. The middle hole - nearest to a fixed 22mm bar setting
3. The inner hole - hardest setting

Hi Frayz, if you have the time it may be worth fitting the rear ARB now, that way you can feel the change the rear bar alone makes then when the rear links arrive you can feel their additional benefit.

Mark, nice write up what's your initial impressions on the way your car now feels?

Recieved my rear arb and front drop links monday..thanks Zak.

Fitted my rear anti roll bar today, stuck it on the middle hole to try that first.
I wasn't going to fit the front drop links until i'd recieved my rear links but as i had the time and all the tools out i decided to put them on..
So hopefully if the rain stays off i'll go have a play tonight and see how i think she feels now!

Cheers Mark and Zak.

Cheers Zak.

I took it out for a run before going to Days launch evening & tried a few of my favourite bends/roundabouts on the way back.

The car feels much more balanced & settled. The back end feels more in tune with the sharpened up front end. There is less understeer but it hasn't been replaced by oversteer. The whole thing has a more planted feel to it at sub 70 speeds. It just needs checking on my private bit of road to see what the high end handling is like.

Hi Zak,

Can you do me a set of rear Noltec droplinks at the group buy price? Sorry, I didn't see this thread, too busy working!

I should be up in a very few of weeks for the remap and exhaust fitment.

Regards

Greg
