help needed to find top cancer specialist...
I had my 3 monthly checkup today, all is well.
Apart from where I had my wide local excision to remove any further cells there is Post Inflammatory Pigmentation of the skin.
This is normal, due to the size of my scar as they had to stretch the skin on my back and under my arm so they didn`t have to do a skin graft.
Although pre op they did mention that they may have to do it but would try and avoid it.
I was also checked, down there. . . . . . . They didn`t find anything to my relief. It was embarrassing at the time though, but I would much rather them find anything, sooner rather than later.
As Michelle has said previously, please if you find anything unusual go and get it checked out, even if you think it maybe nothing.
It maybe a few minutes of feeling uncomfortable, but it may save your life at the end of the day.
My thoughts are with Everyone,
Best Regards
Anthony

That's great news Anthony
I agree, get anything checked out that you don't think is right or you are concerned about. I'm glad I did, i was embarrassed because of where it was but I'd rather get it checked then for something to become of it.

Guys & Gals,
I don't know if he's posted on this thread or not, but another SNetter 'Edmondo' is currently half way through his Chemo treatment (6/12) and his wife has posted in ScoobyAid about him.......
If you get the time drop in and wish him well, as we all know its nice to feel supported.....
Cheers, DCI

I wonder if I could drop in here and ask a little question..?
Back in November last year, I went into hospital for what I thought was a minor op to clear something up which I thought (and one of the Docs I saw) was causing blood in my urine. It turned out on further investigation (surgery) that I had a large malignant tumour in my bladder (explained the blood, frequent loo trips and needing to p*ss all the time). They cut the tumour out there and then during the investagatory op and broke the news when I woke up.
Anyway, a bit further down the road in Feb this year, I go in for a check on how things are doing (ie any regrowth) and there were some suspicious looking parts so the Doc burnt them there and then (that smarted). Fast forward again to a fortnight ago for my next check up and I get the all clear for six months with the Doc not spotting any regrowth.
So that's all pretty good news. I've never smoked in my life and it made me angry that I got it, so I won't let it beat me and I'm going to get this cancer out of me totally. It won't keep me down.
Which leads me to my question. I had/have critical illness cover in my life insurance which would cover my illness. I put in a claim and gave them all the details I knew. They have written back saying that they will not pay out because I did not tell them I had been to my gp, and the urologist twice before my policy commenced (the policy was applied for in May 06, just took a while to get sorted as they wanted a medical report for something else). Now, can I appeal this and where can I go for help in putting together a good, heavyweight appeal..?
Hope this is in line with the thread. If not, please say and I'll amend my posting appropriately.
To any other S'netters out there with anything similar, don't let it get you down, don't give in to it and fight it all the way. Be positive, it's the only way.
Nige.

I used to work in the insurance industry on Critical Illness cover - you could take it to appeal but I believe that you would lose on the basis of a pre-existing medical condition. Even though it was not diagnosed as cancer at the time, it was and had been investigated.
Sorry.
On the plus side - you seem to have great fighting spirit and that is definitely a good thing
From my own perspective I havent posted on here for a while, but do still read it. It helps me to remember the journey that I went on beginning last february when my mum was first diagnosed. The loss of her still hurts me today.
My thoughts and best wishes are with you all.

Cheers Leslie & dynamix, it's the only way you can be when it comes to fighting it. Shame that you have to fight insurance companies, employers etc as well though.
Best wishes to everyone else who has been touched by the big C in one way or another.

Good luck

I must admit, I am getting very sceptical of these Critical Illness policies. We've got one, not sure if it is worth the paper it is written on, going off what you have said.
Anyway, all the best
Nige, no problems in you posting in here at all. We are hear to listen and help in anyway we can. We are here for eachother. So if ever you feel the need to say something, pop in here.
I know many people have had to post heartbeaking threads in here, it must have been difficult for them. Some have had the benefit of sharing good news, but we are all in here for a reason.
That is to help eachother. This has helped me so many times in sharing my experiences, I hope others feel the same.
I`m not very good with words, sorry.

Mrs Leslie and I got to the hospital and when we got to reception they looked a bit blank since the surgeon was away that day! They looked the appointment up and it turns out they really meant the 11th July! Lucky we had some shopping to do in the area anyway.
Thanks for asking Sara, another 4 weeks to wait now!

Thanks you Anthony.
Have got some good news as well. My close friend who was diagnosed with inoperable Rectal cancer and in the liver too, had intensive chemo for 3 months and his tumour has shrunk to one eighth of it original size, the liver ones have reduced considerably too. We are all over the moon about it and it must have been his positive attitude which did a great deal to help. Fingers crossed for him here.

Have you got a date yet Les?
How is everyone? I have my checkup this afternoon. I`ll let you know how I get on. I should, if all goes well be on 6 monthly checkups after today. As it is just over a year since I was diagnosed.
Regards To All.
