Optimax. 99 UK Turbowagon totally boggo.
Started on 95, after a few months tried Optimax and that cured the mid band hesitation I'd complained to a dealer about.
Worked for the same problem on our 99 1.3 Micra too, so that gets Optimax.
99 Tesco has just become available our way but I haven't tried it yet.

They could well be, I'm not sure... personally I run with 98 when I can get it, but don't mind if I have to use 95 now and again. I don't reset the ecu very often either... mine's a MY98 standard uk wagon btw

Legally all cars sold in the UK MUST be capable of running on 95ron fuel.

That's a fact, along the same lines as 'The earth is not flat.'

I've never understood the fuel argument to be honest, and as everyone knows it's been covered so many times before

I think for a lot of people using super or sloptimax it has more of an intangible benefit.

Whether the car feels better is incalculable, and is inconsistent. One My99 might feel better, one might feel worse. Hell, if it makes you FEEL any better buying Optimax then do so

All I can say is that my MY00 ran for more than four years on Sainsbury's 95 (yes I can feel the gasps!!! - It's that Sainsbury's well out in the Persian gulf, purposely sucking up crap fuel ) with NO problems whatsoever. It never missed a beat, and ran perfectly.

That surprised me too.

But if you can't tell the difference in performance and its not going to do any harm to the engine, then I suppose, why not.

Suermarket superplus unleaded = The Pound Shop !!

Optimax = Harrods !!

What would you rather have in yours ??

If you do a google search on "5th Gear" (TV programme) and search on there for the fuel survey they did, the results speak for themselves - Optimax.

It costs me £90 quid extra a year to use Optimax rather than ordinary unleaded. What's £90 quid over a year - not worth worrying about.

Rant over !!
Graeme.

Graeme.
Costs me over £400 extra a year to run on Optimax !

So why stick 'Harrods' fuel in our 'Debenhams' car ?

Optimax if I cant get that then Esso is next best thing.

Always used to use Optimax and was very happy with it but have tried Tesco 99 for the last 4 fills. Subjectively the car feels a bit livelier on my commuting run (30 miles of mixed traffic) but seems to be a couple of mpg down. This could of course just be the cold weather.
