Summat's up.

Keep me informed, please.

I would make sure you get that in writing from her

I am in hampshire at present and the car is in newbury - berkshire where it is still having its open bonnet surgery.

I will certainly keep you informed, coma and see it at NBO

Not sure what the plans are yet, plus I am not allowed to discuss over these unsecured channels, I have to run all plans past the Squadron Leader for approval, there a strict bunch the Wagon Squadron

We whent to dealers earlier today to check out the Hawkeye wagons and grab some brochures, I am not totally convinced though for the money

In the showroom, they had all 3 wagons lined up, the new 1.5 R Sports Wagon, the 2.0 RX and the 2.0 WRX, to me the 2.0RX seems a waste time, you may as well go the whole hog and get the 2.5 turbo WRX. Pippa liked the normally aspirated 1.5 one, parked next to the WRX i was amazed that it was near identical apart from obvious scoop - they had put the Prodive WR1 alloys and waist spoiler and all the kit on the 1.5 and it actually looked nicer than the WRX, apart from the peashooter exhaust that looked like a straw, plus it did look abit like a tractor on stilts as it sits 25 mm higher than WRX, not sure if you can get lower sprngs for it though

anyway, all food for thought

I was reading the original advert for that car when you bought it. It's been severely tracked, by the sounds of it. What is the mechanical condition of the rest of the car?

Severely tracked .... can you forward me where you saw that or link, never read. seen that

To be quite honest I am not sure, although Len is servicing it for me as he builds it so is checking the rest of the mechanics over while its in. I hadnt owned the car long enough to even begin to tinker about with it and investigate, I must have not even covered 200 miles before it whent pop

I drove it home from southampton to andover (1 hr drive) to southampton for the hanst meet (1 hr there, 1hr back) couple of runs to the kebab shop, laps of the town centre to annoy local saxo boys Then drove it to dunsfold for the Squadrons Very Secret Mission (5hrs) , where it suffered its Wounded in Action. So that is a total of less than 10 hours behind the wheel

It will get a full health check before I contemplate passing it on

Sorry, *smiles* I read the same advert as you did, but I might be reading too much into it. It was the oil vapour catch tank that did it for me. Isn't that a mod for heavy track use? The dump-valve and flamer kit looked like a real no-no, too.

I want an Sti5/6 wagon just once in my life.

Right, gotcha now, i just re-read your initial reply. Not sure about the oil vapour catch tank, as I understood it from Tim all the mods were done sensibly with the aim of reliability and safety.

I am thinking of putting all that stuff back to standard - standard air box with performance panel filter, standard dump valve, remove flamer etc. I have some of Carll Daveys manifold and header tank insulators to try and reduce heatsoak also. I was going to go to the next power level 360+, with FMIC, tubular headers, bigger turbo,SX regulator and parallel fuel rail mod, etc but decided to keep it standard and about the 300 mark tp play it safe, let new owner change that if they need. At least it will have the bullet proof (as close as you can get without going steel) bottom end, so thats one less thing to worry about.

Things that go are - Gearbox, driveshafts, and clutch is an expensive job so if one just fitted thats a bonus

Bottom ends are prone to go on STI's (I shouuld know ) not sure about uk ones, but not really an issue I dont think. also leaking heads, but again being UK spec not a major drama.

When I was looking for mine I found several have rusted around rear light clusters, I think the boot seals go and water runs down and sits/ pools there.

But as far as checking goes the best rule of thumb is that the more standard the engine the better, deware and cautious of track days mods and VTA dump valves, induction kits etc

good luck

Im looking to buy one of these Impreza sport 5dr.Ive seen advertised a 2000 Xreg at £5k and a 2003 at £6k both have roughly the same mileage first has 43,000 and second 39,000 these are from subaru dealers. The 2003 is a ? bugeye style.
Do people feel that this style is generally inferior to classic style and would this affect value of car?

Quality of engine may be in question in that case, induction kits are generally a no-no on standard'ish spec engines, AFAIK the standard airboxes dont become a bottleneck an power limit till about 350 bhp, so its a contentious issue over induction kits and DV's and I dont have my flame suit on right now

Its always a good negotiating point though
