Quite right too

After all, it's nice to have a change from the daily routine.....
On a different note though, it is an important duty, and not one that we should try and bunk off. I found it very interesting tbh. A bit of waiting around, but I was put onto 4 cases as well, and it was definately worthwhile.

One thing about it - the atmosphere in the courtrooms - puts you right off breaking the law Think I'd **** myself if I was up against that lot

I did it years ago, great time!

Chap next to me was called up a couple of months ago. Your employer can't get you out of it but you can request a deferral. He was happy to do it but our boss wasn't so she wrote the court a letter and made him sign it!!!!!

I work for a sh1tty company.

The best bit is she was sworn in on Monday and the trial starts Friday, so whilst her boss was OK with an expected 2 week stint when it transpired it was 7 weeks she got stroppy. A little late me thinks, I've told the missus to just ignore her as it's far too late for her boss to be throwing her toy's out of the pram!!

Can't agree more with many of the comments regarding "public duty, right to trial" etc, just wish her boss saw it that way.

Cheers everybody

I'm a solicitor and received a jury summons yesterday for a trial in April.

Would be nice if I had someone to cover me in the office but there isn't anyone

"if you suffer from a mental health problem"

Wonder how bad that has to be to get off jury service? Presume a note from your doctor would be enough or do you need to be completely mad?Personally I've always wanted to do jury service but never been selected. I would quite like a nice complicated financial fraud case but would settle for a juicy murder.

My wife got selected years ago just as we were about to leave for a holiday in America. Even after the travel agent confirmed the tickets had been booked 6 months before they still gave us lots of grief and demanded to see the original tickets just beofre we left. Never heard from them again after that.

Agree with initial comments re "it's her line-manager's problem" - Sounds like the sort of thing you end up reading about in the press - IMHO it's a bit of a scandal that a state institution (NHS) should be asking employees to "get out of" what is an individual's state duty... They'll be asking her to chage her vote at the general election next!

My good lady finished Jury service on Wednesday, intresting trial from what she has now told me. Defendant was found guilty and is now awaiting sentencing by the judge on 23 counts of fraud etc.

Regarding getting out of Jury service - your chances are somewhere between slim and non existant which pleased my wifes boss no end!! Oh how we laughed.
