I took my humble 205 along and have plenty of footage of you lot spinning off into the fields while I reeled you in a spat you out. Just because you have AWD doesn't mean you're the daddy.
My mate took his 944 turbo along too. Same sort of power as you guys with dreaded rear wheel drive, other than a couple he was running quickest on the day.

You may have the car but have you got the ability to drive it?

As for winding people up, its great fun, especially when they take the bait

Gary
Yes. I have tremendous ability to drive my car in all weathers on all terrain.

I did consider having a Scooby (had a go in 1), but in the end, it was just down to personall prefrance {sp}.
Had a DC run recently with a Focus RS (Bluefin) and I was much quicker in every gear from 2nd up (15 to xxx). So much so I backed off the first blast at 6 score and 10 as I was getting seriously pebble dashed. The biggest advantage was coming off roundabouts, he could not compete..! Yes he was trying (pops and flame) and whilst not a test of driver skills it was a test of the cars relative performance.

OK my wrx 05 is remapped (~280/270) but IIRC a Bluefin/decatted RS has to be <250..? Never the less I was plesently supprised..

Sorry Gary, I'd have to agree looking at that vid.

They all indicated to let you passed, and the one that mildly looked like he was trying was driving over the paint in the wet..! My 2 year old know better than that..!

Stefan they weren't

No disrespect..!

Northloop mugs.....You've got to be mugs refering to 'your experience of Scoob drivers'. What? ALL Scoob drivers? Every single one in the world? In the UK? Who exactly are you refering to? Are we ALL crap drivers? My Scoob is better built than any Pug, is better quality, more reliable, has a far better engine, and is better designed than any Peugeot, and by ME, is very well driven. These are facts, my Pug friend, not my wet dreams or aspirations, but true facts.

Shouldn't you really be on a Peugeot website, rather than here giving us all a headache with your 'Pug this and Pug that' attitude?

Mate of mine has a MY04 2.0l Turbo astra which has had phase 1 remap and we just fitted a FMIC and the thing absolutely flies. Running approx 240BHP and im sure it would keep up with my STi8 (non PPP).

Next week booked in for Phase 2 remap which I think will give it approx 265bhp

Next - sort out the traction!!

I had an Astra Turbo before the scooby.

Yes it might be quicker than the Scooby in certain aspects, but the the driving experience of the Impreza is far superior.

Fair enough the Astra was modded to around 300bhp, and was a good laugh, but when you have to replace the front tyres every 2-3 months it gets a bit expensive.

My Impreza still isn't as quick 100mph+, but how often do you really go above these speeds.

Weighed up the pros and cons of each car before i got rid of the Astra, and i definately made the right choice, as much as i loved the Vauxhall i wouldn't go back to it.

Ok, so its not exactly an original point but -all other things being equal, including driver skill, it's still very valid- The closest I've come to a really satisfying FWD car in challenging conditions is the Ford Puma. Tellingly, that has only 120bhp, but could use all of it and could carry speed through the corners beautifully. Even the 150bhp 2.2 litre Astra SRi had significant traction problems and could be made to spin its power away in the dry! I found a Leon Cupra R with 225 a liability in the wet, and a remapped one, virtually undrivable.

Yes, you can put agressive diffs between the front wheels, give the cars huge tyres etc... but these are all "band aids" on a problem that wouldn't be there had they been RWD or 4WD.

IMHO The Clio Cup is about as far as it's reasonable to go with FWD. If manufactures are going down this route they should focus on making the cars light (which is one of the perks of FWD) and chuckable and not get involved in the power arms race! The best Gti's were always the nimble ones, not necessarily the ones with the biggest punch.

Also you are comparing the VXR to the WRX, should really compare the WRX to the Astra SRI, and the STI to the Astra VXR.

The VXR and the STI are both the highest performance car from each manufacturer.

So are you going to comapre the STi against a 911 GT2 from now on then, rather than the basic 911?

I think Top Gear said it best the other day when they pointed out that a greyhound is RWD! ( actually I think it's AWD myself - I don't see how the front legs can't offer some kind of forward traction as well as steering) but what they didn't mention is when a DOG lays down the power with it's front legs it DIGS A BLOODY BIG HOLE!!

You do realise that Gary does have a Scooby don't you!

I think he's just enjoying a bit of a troll! But then he does also drive a french car!! Probably eats cheese and garlic too, thinks EuroDisney is better than the one in Florida and has a secret liking for girls with hairy armpits!.

No, that would be the Spec C.

Lap the ring in under 8 mins?

I did get your point, but i'm sure you can appreciate what i was getting at aswell.

I personally think the VXR is a brilliant car and i would love to have one, but if i was to be spending that kind of money there are certainly other options which would give a better driving experience. (Impreza, Evo etc).

Although it does seem that the new technology is making the new FWD cars handle much better than they used to.

VXR/Focus ST could all be a good match for a Scooby, but i PERSONALLY would still prefer a AWD after experiencing both.

PMSL ...........

Pug this and pug that attitude, pmsl again, just because I happen to think there are other good cars out there other than scoobs.

There are a good few people who were at Bedford last Feb who thought their awd cars were the best in the world and came away thinking, well actually maybe its not just about the car........Thats the point I was trying to make.

Wet twisties is a bull **** throw away subaru comment which is laughed at by other people......

LOL

These threads crack me up.

I'd put money on the fact that a standard VXR would lap practically any track quicker than a standard WRX, wet or dry, with the same driver on standard fit road tyres.

And its better looking

And its 2 grand cheaper.

Lets not get hung up on Top gear times - its more or less accepted fact that the stig is more than one person.

All this talk about PPP and a few choice suspension mods is worthless.

Throw 4 grand at the VXR and it would rip the WRX a new arsehole..LOL...

Seriously though: How much does a GT2 cost? Surely the headline here is that Subaru make a std production car for -what about 28k in the Uk, much less in Japan- that will complete a lap of the ring in under 8 mins for less than a third of what a GT2 will cost you. And before everyone says, that wasn't the point being made, the point was the compare what the elite of each marque can do. Of course the porka wins, but that the scooby is in the same league (i.e. sub 8mins) is incredible.

Another thought. The GT2 set that time preumably in the hands of Walter Rohl (sp?) I'd bet that most other drivers would be much quicker in the AWD 911 turbo! Even the ring veterans of Evo said this If I recall correctly.

I do wonder how quick Dirk (I forget his surname, the one that broke 8 mins in a skyline) would need in spec C?

You mean rip its tyres surely!!

A bit of banter is good fun, but some of these comments made about FWD cars are every bit as daft as some of the more over-enthusiastic scooby owners!
