aah, money is a factor.

btw one question is which i may have missed earlier. How comes you got a shell thats so chewed up. Or did you get it deliberately in order to play around with bodywork?

Removed more sound proofing, started stripping the paint off under the bonnet.. Going too far with this weight saving

Altered the fuel filler cap too..

Removed the plastic wagon filler cap.

Got a metal one and removed the inner skin.. then hammed the lip out around the edge so I ended up with a piece of metal with the correct 'shape / curve'

Then cut the inner bit out of the quarter panel.. (The bit the neck bolts into) I then tack welded the plate inter the 1/4 panel.. but It was then so flimsy the panel has distorted, even though I tried to do it with minimum heat.. so a bit of panel beating to do on the panel. Not too happy but nothing I cant deal with... all this becuase I dont want a filler cap.

Got some pics on the camera, when Im feeling better I will upload them.

Not happy at the work the filler cap has taken.. took 2 hours of filling and sanding.. now got a coat of filler and a 'guide coat' on for wet and dry'ing with something like 120 /180 and see the high and low spots... did I mention I hate this bit?

Getting there slowly though.. will upload some pics soon..

Have made some supports out of wood, so I can stand in the car whilst on the jig.. Have cut the sealant away from around the screen and cleaned the seal area and realised the roof was more rotten than anticipated and will need cutting out and replacing not happy but oh well.. **** happens. best do that whilst im sober

under the bonnet is nearly 100% bare metal, and battery tray and washer bottle brackets are 90% removed.

Wait till you've got your cage in before fitting the new roof panel David...maybe a nice sheet of aluminium or Carbon would do the job

David:
While i was looking in the Axis Powerracing site last night, they have some great shots of a Wagon multipoint cage in one of their Project cars which I'm sure you will find interesting.
All the Dyalynx Audi Quattro short wheel base conversions use Kevlar roof panels bonded to the body, but some scrutineers dont like a plastic (or non metalic) roof panel as if the car rolls then the roof will split rather than bend on contact with the scenary..
A rusty roof sounds gross. Cant you weld a section in?
Thought you would be fitting carbon bonnet/tailgate in the diet for the car?

Blocking down cars is just the most boring task ever, bloody horrid job.
It is now you find out if you have real mates or not!

Pics please for all of us.

And take that bloody V8 TMIC off AGAIN? sick of spending hours fiddling it back into place; should of bought a Hybrid FMIC in the first place.
Suppose I could wash/clean/wax the wheelarches?

I really want to fit a new box and diff, but the 'Finance Director' will not allow the investment.(yet) as she knows that Slicks will be next on the list, another £800 though the faithful Kumho's are shajjed out so there's another £450..this is crazy!
Graham.

Graham, I cant trust anyone other than a couple of people and my dad to help.. otherwise I cant be 100% when I come to paint it.

A fibreglass / carbon roof is an option still.. will probably cut a section out and weld it up.

Tim, the roof doesnt need to come off to fit the cage.

I know David, but, if you were going to take it off to replace then it would make life a little easier to leave it off till the cage is in...

I shall be investigating what bits needs to come off my car to fit a bolt in cage (ie to weld in the support plates), if it looks like getting close to the work required for a full weld in then the whole thing is getting stripped down...

Fitted mine in a day with the wife helping (!)
'B' posts are awkward as there are fuel lines just where you need to weld...
Seats out and carpet edges but I needed to remove a rear door too to get the rear half in.
You loose the sunvisors incidentally.

Graham, unlike yourself (and possibly me, I'm still undecided) David is going for the full multipoint weld in cage with seam welded chassis...ie ultra stiff and ultra stripped down

removed allready.. one of the first things to come out.. just remove the trims then remove all the visible 10mm bolts iirc and then rip it out... removes the handles with the lining.
