If it does go to court try and get a letter from your employer saying you need the vehicle for work.
Ref insurance - it might not be that bad. I was banned for 21 days a couple of years ago, and was told by an underwriter that any ban under 1 whole month only carries the same loading as a normal SP30 (3 points). This might not be the case for all insurers though.

Steve.
but thats how they can legally snag you!
Ok,you're stopped.
cop says '' you were doing 100mph'' and reads you your rights...anything you say blah blah
next he says ''so how fast were you going then?''
you reply,''only 78 max officer,honest''
Too late you've just admitted to speeding and your comment can be quoted in court even if he really had no other proof that you were in fact speeding!!

Yes, that sucks Jon. Been there myself with the "you were doing over a hundred miles per hour weren't you?" comment.
Sneaky... my little Suzuki shopping trolley would not make 95 downhill so it would have been an amusing court case. Took 3pts FP instead

Ask for a certificate that the officer as training and has passed the relevant qualification for alleged speed gun use.
Ask to see the calibration for the alleged gun also.
Sounds like theyre trying it on. Also ask for video or photographic evidence

He has to follow you closely enough to ba able to see your speed on his calibrated speedometer and for a reasonable distance. It always used to be 3/10s of a mile.
If you feel you have to drive at 3 figure speeds on the public road, it would at least be sensible for your own protection to check in the mirror to see if you are being followed. No point whining about it-it is your own fault you were caught!

That I know of there have now been several prosecutions based upon evidence gathered by a crack police team of internet surfers and donut eaters. An excellent use of our money by the party that is tough on crime.
While it is unlikely they will do you for murder, as there was no factual content in your post at all, it is happening and potentially under PACE anything to which you admit on the internet could be seen as a voluntary confession.
Steve Callaghan is on the record as saying "one of the things we now do is monitor websites and other drivers’ resources to see what is going on.” and he is certainly most active in this role. He and his chums also spread false information on motorists resources and are especially keen on posting information like "Oh there is no way to escape the fine so you'd best just take what you deserve." in an attempt to discourage people taking their cases to court. This is one reason why it is very important to be selective about information you read on the internet, as you say people do just make stuff up and some of them are being paid by the camera partnerships to do it.

After a recent press statement where they admitted that the motorist who was prosecuted was caught through something he posted on an internet forum (Pepipoo) many people saw the light and realised that you'd have to be extremely paranoid indeed to dream up something that wasn't currently happening.

But how did they link some nom-de-pume on a web forum to the offence and then to who the chap actually was - maybe he used his rather unique surname as a 'handle'? That's the missing bit of info Hegehog...

I honestly don't know how they are doing it, one thing I'd be pretty sure of is that a lot more police resources than you'd like to imagine are being thrown at it!
However, in many cases I suspect it is fairly simple. For example if someone posts "I was caught on road X near place Y on date Z at speed 120mph and have a summons to go to court in X on day Y" then I don't think you'd need to request IP addresses from the web site to detemine who made the posting, in fact I don't even think you'd need a GCSE to work it out
As to if they request IP addresses, real email addresses, real home addresses etc. from web masters, well I'd be surprised if they don't or if they don't attempt to obtain them by some means, even if it is not by asking the web masters for them. Ask Steve Callaghan the next time you see him on a web forum and he will probably tell you.

My brother was once pulled by a policeman for accelerating too hard off a roundabout on a derestricted dual carriageway (just a warning) so I have sympathy with anyone who is mistreated by the boys in blue.
I agree with PS Lewis re admitting to speeding just not 100+ - just own up to whatever you actually were doing...
As for Will Smiths adversaries from the film Enemy Of The State scouring the interweb for confessions I have serious doubts as to how that stands up in a court of law... Although I am no lawyer... The rock band queen owned up to killing a man in a song from the 1970's (before the interweb existed) but they were not even arrested, never mind charged by the police despite going into detail about the killing. So someone called Scooby1234 saying he went 700mph across a salty desert should be OK me thinks...
