PMSL @ saxo boy and his Vinnie Jones, come Eric Cantona style fighting.... absolute quality.
Yeah those Videos don't prove any sort of fighting skill but they are damn cool to watch LOL
Go to www.nearlygood.com and do a search for breakdance.... there is a dude on there as strong as they come, I mean.... press ups with your feet in the air...... it's amazing, he's busting a load of cooool moves that even this Gymnast/fighters would be jealous of

that kick boxer dude is fooking ard! thats the kind of style i can see being usefull in 'reallife' situations, though its hard not to seem a bit girly kicking in a fight. got called a girl by a teacher at school for kicking in a fight, i did win though!

Agreed, kicking is one of the best forms of keeping someone at a distance thus keeping your jaw and nose intact... controlled none flashy kicks are grand, if you have god balance you can just keep ya foot in the air and flash it at them everytime they move..... seems to put people off The best way to stop someone..... a fast Solid side kick (need good tecnique) in to the lower ribs, crack/break a couple jobs a gooden, can't fight if you can't breath properly

As Stealth says target weak spots, knees, ribs, temple, solar plexsus (sp?), etc. No idea why but most people tend to just instantly think about mashing someones face in during a fight despite big hits to the face often doing little unless you manage to catch them clean on the nose.

Most people panic mate and think about trying to knock someone out in one punch.... stupid move... When ever I used to train and spa I would always aim for the weak spots of the opponent unless they happened to be one of those pain in the **** peopel that just don't go down no matter what, in that case the Aikido comes out to play..... Get close, wrap them up and make them submit, or they get a shoulder popped or elbow snapped
Man I really must start again all this talk of it has gotten me in the mood again, only stopped due to getting my jaw broken in training... damn those lucky punches LOL!!

High kicks and even midsection kicks can be easily avoided or caught as legs require big movements and are easy to spot, plus its one less leg to maintain your balance and effectively disables you for a second or so. Leg kicks are only useful if fighting someone with same sort of fight style. Watch UFC fighter and rarely to they ever do high or mid kicks, never any flashy axe kicks, side kicks, turning kicks etc. Most boxers/kick boxers and the like nearly always loses to those who use mainly wrestling techniques. Even street fights/pub brawls are mostly fought close quarters where both eventually are on the floor wrestling and flailing wildly. Martial arts that mainly deals with close quater fighting and grappling are more useful as self defence than any of the "flashy" martial arts.
At the end of the day, its not cowardly to walk away, you never know what the other person is capable of and whether they're carrying any other weapon like knives and now these days even guns.

broken ribs wont stop a fighter pumped up on adrenaline
#46
What the guy who teaches us always says, if you've got a drugged up/drunk guy in a fight no good breaking his arm as he won't feel it plus with all the adrenaline they'll just carry on. Would hurt like hell afterwards but then it's too late

Sorry to hear about the broken Rib mate ......But In a tournament a guy came full on with a blitz, one solid punch BROKE not fractured a couple of his ribs, he buckled up like a big girl and couldn't carry on fighting..... you may not feel the rib break but no ammount of adrenalin can help you breath !!!!
Fast kicking is always a good defence and offence, Kicks don't need big movements at all and are not easy to catch or dodge..... it's all in the technique as I always say, Quick, non telegraphed kicks often with three is quick succession to different sections of teh body work VERY well, it's all about shifting the opponents guard so you can really hit what it is you want to hit...
Take the blitz movement in Kickboxing for example.... this is a VERY explosive move which consists of a Full sprint style movement forward, with a Back fist towards the Temple.... this brings your opponents guard up to their face leaving you to ram a reverse punch in to the Solarplexus.
But I stadn by.... one art of fighting isn't enough.... you need to cross train, one striking art and one close quarter at least to stand a chance.

I would rather not end up inside a cell when there are other areas of the body whcih are just as effective at stopping someone with no lasting effect.

JGM, I was in a narrow doorway, on steps, with the guy's hand holding my lapel and the other brandishing a 7in blade hunting knife. I was totally unarmed. You have 0.5 seconds to decide what to do - time's up. In fact I got three parallel stripes across my neck near my throat where he nicked me with the serrated blade at the same time I hit him. The guy is so well known by the police that they picked him up within 15 minutes of being told who he was, the same evening.
I can assure you that in that situation, unarmed vs druggie with knife, killing someone in self-defence IS reasonable force.
After he came back 15 mins later and poured petrol on the front door and set it alight, the case never got to court as there were no witnesses, just me vs him. So he walked.
I haven't forgotten who he was or what he did. I look forward to meeting him again one day.

I afgree with you fully Brendan and you did well to not get seriously hurt.. just mentioning it..
The problem being no witnesses and he walked.. had you killed him you think things would have shifted onto your favour so easily?
