Projection TVs. not a fan off myself, newer ones aint as bad but never been a fan of them if viewing from an angle rather than directly at the TV.

never been impressed with rear projection tv, although they do allow you HUGE screens at a reasonable price.

but if ya rooms big enough, ya better with a projector for about the same money then ya tv can be as big as ya wall!!!

my dad has one and it projects a 6ft wide image in high definition too...

If that's the DLP rear projection HD ready sets you mean, i would reccomend one without hesitation, i bought a 42" plasma, and wish i'd now got the DLP, it's a far superior picture quality, only downside is there not quite so slim as plasmas, but if you've got a 29ft lounge it shoud'nt be a problem.

rear projections were **** (i should know, my mate has one still, can't watch it from anywhere other than directly infront), but the new generation DLPs are awesome, viewing angles aren't a problem, aslong as you dont try and watch TV standing up directly infront of it i did back to back tests with LCD, Plasma & DLP and for picture quality DLP won it for me everytime (LCD & Plasmas looked too blocky for my liking) only thing i noticed on mine is that scrolling credits are slightly blurred

Have to agree entirely about the blocky bit, but the credits still go blurry on plasma's and lcd's, i wish i had bought a DLP,the picture quality is far superior to any plasma or lcd iv'e seen, rather than rushing in to buying a plasma, just because they were the in thing, still iv'e got a good excuse to buy a 45" DLP now, and keep the plasma just for games.

I disagree, dont get any blocky pictures on my plasma (only on E4 etc and Id put that down to compression of the channels etc) very impressed with it to be honest, all depends on the feed and connectivity leads

very cool, I wanted to do what youve done with the AV stuff but unfortunately the stuff (DVD player etc) was too deep for the old fireplace so bricked it up instead.... Looks very smart though and helps with space in the room

Everybody says that LCD are now better than Plasma. To be honest it is true, but when you go into a showroom some of the latest plasma TV's are stunning compared to the LCDs. The thing is the LCD televisions are never setup correctly in crappy stores like comet and currys.

I have got this Sharp LCD

Picture quality is excellent, probably the best of any LCD I have seen so far, most LCD tv's seem to have a crap viewing angle but you can see mine as you would a CTR tv.

If you want bigger than 37" I would get a plasma though as although you can get 50"+ LCD's they are very expensive!

As also said above, make sure you get HD Ready so you don't have to fork out again in another couple of years.

A big screen in your main living room is pure chav, get an extension built purely for a cinema room and have a huge plasma or projector, for day to day use a small-ish lcd is fine, I mean, does Kat Slater need to be any bigger ?

Bought a 26 inch Samsiung LCD a couple of weeks back and its great and am now just planning the Cinema type room.

J4cko, if thats the case why'd you go for a 26" one? why not a 14" portable? Seriously I dont want to spend £2k on a TV and stick it in a room which I'll visit once maybe twice a week to watch a DVD....

Good thread
Currently have a Loewe CRT Nemos - excellent but not HD ready. The next purchase is a Pioneer 43XDE Plasma - just won the What HiFi awards for 42" upwards. HD ready of course ready for XBOX 360

I would recommend www.avforums.com

Cos a 14 inch portable is halve the size and invisible, being a bit sad, I mocked up the screen size in cardboard for 32 and 26, 26 was fine and saved 500 quid towards the proper one.

well, just gone and bought it, £799 think i've got a bargain for that price, simply can't justify paying 2k for a tv not unless i want to go into debt and especialy with christmas round the corner . Any way here's a pic of it

DLP's IMO do have the best picture, especially for brightness/contrast, and you can get really big screen sizes like 61" for a good price if you look around. Main concern is the limited lifespan of the bulb and the high cost of replacements.

[quote]I have 29 ft living room[quote]

Mine is 28' - but no chair/sofa is more than 19' away from the screen. You need some room for the table football

It obvioulsy depends on your oom layout - but it does depend on the distance the primar watching positions are from the screen.

When I got glasses I was dissapointed with the amount of pixelation/blocking I can now see on Sky. Soemtimes a slight blurring can be a +ve advantage.

I Have a 43" screen tv and the only problem is if your picture signal is not 100% then any defects are magnified so the picture is only as good as the incoming signal and its more noticable.
