On a sensible note, do not end it on bad terms if possible. Also tell him your going to quit on the given situation, he may offer (if he actually needs you) to sort his poor attitude out, which may/may not stick. Just do not end it like a fool, you never know when you may need his services (not those type)
All the best.

Sometimes people who behave like this are terribly insecure. They do this to vulnerable people to make themselves feel powerful and strong.
It's suprising what a calm face to face talk can reveal. Look him straight in the eye, doesn't matter where you are, his office, general office, wherever, Speak calmly and firmly and ask him if he's having personal problems. Is there anything you can help him with? Would he like to meet up outside work to talk things through.? Its quite amazing (sometimes) how this approach can wrong foot someone and make them take a step back and review how they are treating others.
I talk from personal experience. Suprisingly in my case, the other person burst into tears and totally crumbled in front of me. Now THAT was a suprise.!

just leave, try to leave on the best terms possible and give whatever notice required and often it is possible to pretend that you enjoyed working for him and it was not so bad after all. The better terms you leave on the better for you in the long run.

I've read through this pretty quick so I may have missed it but I am surprised no one has suggesting confronting the guy himself about it before chucking away your job. I have come across two office bullies at various times before (the worst was a woman funnily enough!) and in both cases they backed off as soon as we clashed swords.

I think you will find a marked improvement in their attitude in most cases when they realise you are prepared to stand up for yourself. If that doesn't work then leave but you have nothing to lose trying!
