The best bet is for you to pop along to a local scooby meet and have a listen. The sound files are a nice idea but honestly they dont sound like those

I personally went from a PPP to a ninja, and although being slightly more scooby like, its not that much of a difference personally. I WOULD have gone for something like the TSL typhoon or their group N sounds nice

Have a listen on here for a wide range of exhaust notes:

Same H&S original box on mine which I lurve to bits, although no bangs and pops as such. Is it the removal of the centre cat which provides this extra excitement..? I have a H&S centre section in my garage at home, waiting to be fitted when it's not raining.

I passed an RB5 the other day which had the distinctive Impreza burble than I'm just dying to achieve. The note is hard to describe... it's quite simply the 'Impreza' sound rather than a Scooby with a different back box.

I need to get my Classic serviced soon... perhaps I'll see if my local dealer will change the centre section for me in exchange for some beer tokens.

Jonts.

For anyone interested in a quiet, understated system try the Fujitsubo Super TI. Even with a full decat I don't receive any disapproving looks. I appreciate this is the oppposite of what others having been discussing, but as an alternative it's worth a look.

Handy for circuits that have tight sound restricitions; with an induction kit, aftermarket headers, HKS 3inch decat and 3 inch resonator my car's 92 db at 4500rpm.

when i got my scooby it had a standard system on. (no burble)

the best advise i was given was to remove the center cat.

i took (her) advise and went for the magnex decate and 4 inch round back box.

doing speeds of 70 ish i can only just here it.

if i drive it hard its got that impreza burble and very loud in hi revs!

and if i time it right on the gear change it pops and bangs every time (nice)

Tsl firestorm - nice and deep burble. amazing.

No need to go above 3,000 revs as it sounds amazing at 20mph let alone any faster - just gets better - and the smiles on our faces turn into laughter as it sounds so great. Would have any other.

Scoobysport/Janspeed is very good. Unobtrusive on the motorway, great roar with throttle. Makes you want to drive through tunnels all day!

In which case don't change it. I have yet to hear any full aftermarket exhaust where it is inaudible from inside the car (despite a few people's claims to the contrary). Several of the quieter ones aren't intrusive when cruising, but that is a different matter.

There's been shed-loads of posts in the technical section about quiet exhausts, do a search and you'll find a lot of results. Quietest non-standard systems tend to include MRT, Remus, Prodrive, APS, H&S and /or Scoobysport "quiet" - possibly in that order, but there'll be some I've missed out there. All are much quieter than e.g. Firestorm, Afterburner, Nur Spec etc. All are still loud compared to what most non enthusiasts (i.e. your neighbours etc) would ever fit to their cars.

To get a quieter system, fit a resonated mid-section, and a sports cat downpipe - both subdue the noise a bit. Also, some (unequal length) headers will maintain a fair bit of the growl whilst lowering the overall dB readings compared to the OEM ones. Cabin noise can also be reduced by wrapping downpipes and fitting suitable bits of dynamat or other sound deadening in the right places (e.g. boot floor / spare wheel well)

However, as someone has already said, the only way to really find out is to go along and hear them for yourselves. I've hardly ever heard anyone on here saying "I've got a XXXX and it's horrible" - so you'll get lots of recommendations on line for things that suit others. You need the one that suits you.

my scorpion is inaudible in the car when giving it the beans...the engine drowns out any exhaust noise coming from the back box...which is why i am after a louder backbox if i can get a used one.
