took me three months
but I did a million jobs at the same time, should be a couple of hours with ripping the manifold off and everything.
You need some new bolts, I THINK (!) they are M8 and you need 45mm long, I got 8 of them from a yacht chandlery in stainless for a few quid.
No paste, but I will check closer as it looks like scale from a coolant leak?
you also need 4 inlet manifold gaskets from Subaru, think it was about £28 from Triton in Bournemouth.
Top mod this, just got in to work and the engine bay is roasting, lift the bonnet and the manifold is cold to the touch, proper cold, and that can only mean Im not adding to the charge temp with the manifold

Now Mr. Davey, I want some nice coolant header washers about 5mm deep please, as your top salesman I will be looking for trade rates

while the manifold is off you could take a few minutes to run the parallel fuel rail conversion if you havent already, 2 x metal "T"s and a few metres of fuel injection hose later, et voila!
£25 sorting the fuelling out

Is this mod compatible with a TMIC..?

If so what about the exta 11-12mm (spacer+extra gasket) in height..?

Jason, you'll need to trim the rubber skirt around the TMIC duct a touch, this is best done on a trial and error basis. A decent pair of scissors will do the trick.

John, i can always be found at the other end of carl@gc8.co.uk.

LOL - Sounds like one of my jobs, I 'just' intended to change the clutch plate and ended up changing the pressure plate, release bearing, flywheel, downpipe, uppipe etc...! This job took me a month!

Thanks for the info Peanuts (the original or the recent purchaser of this username!!?? ), I was intending to use the original screws and thought that the spacer would be instead of the gaskets so just as well you said that also. So are the bolts metric fine or standard pitch then? If so you did well to source some st/stl ones - I ended up using just steel ones on my turbo (replaced the studs with bolts so it makes it easier to line up).

I've got plenty of braided fuel line in the garage, is this mod obvious or could you provide details? Might as well make it 'future compliant' - still running the stock injectors and fuel pump (UK MY00) at the mo.

Glad to hear you are pleased with this mod, FYI I still have the TMIC also, and wouldn't fit a FMIC due to the increase in lag.

its a good idea to move the coolent tank off the manifold too by making some brackets out of something that doesnt transmit heat as much, the tank gets well hot and heats up the manifold.

Don't be a girl

It's barely noticeable, and if you're driving in anger it won't matter at all...

Very interested in the spacers, just measuring a few things (turning phase 1 inlet around)...

Is this a one off Carl or ongoing?

I think it was mooted about 22b that the wost case scenario for increased lag with a fmic was an extra 0.2s per change.

tubular headers are the worst offenders imho or a big arsed garrett hybrid on a 2.0L

So that's probably an extra 0.6s on the 0-60mph time then!?

Thanks Carl, I got mine today, just letting you know as requested. They look really good, thanks again!

yup, got my reservoir spacers as promised.
VERY trick looking, will be going on in the morning, although I should have fitted them today as the heat was getting a bit silly without the mini scoop in place

I have 4 washers from Carl. 2 under the tank and another 2 above to isolate the bolts.

Are these still available?

Might be another job for the summer Like the idea of keeping temps down and moving header tank for the same reason.

Also, this parallel fuel line business - is it worth doing on a relatively standard engine (TEK,Decat,Filter) ? Looked at the instructions a while back.

Ed, have a look at www.******.co.uk for the bits.

Its worthwhile doing this mod due to the fact that number 3 cyl can go leaner than the rest. Couple that with the extra heat it suffers and you could see some det. New age cars run the fuel in the reverse sequence to elimate this. This is what I have been told anyway by Bob Rawle.
