Is 10/50 not too much of a thin oil for a car of my age...or am i talking bull...?

suggestions for which oil for UK my96 turbo wagon with 111k on the clock, do 30k a year and change oil on a regular basis. no nothing about oil !!
also which oil filter from that confusing list??? HELP!

Filter is L14460

Oil.

10w-40 semi-synthetic is a cost option, quality either Silkolene PRO S 10w-50 or Motul 300V 10w-40 or 15w-50

Would you recommend Silkolene PRO S 10w-50 or Motul 300V 10w-40 for a TEK3'd UK MY99 that does lots of short journeys? (only live 2 miles from work)

Not worried about the price by the way.
