i have a golf 2 litre tdi
i was thinking of selling the ****** and getting a a4 tdi
would the fabia be too small and is it in fact a step down from the golf being a 1.9 instead of a 2 litre
i fancy the change cos of the new baby on the way really
ie i want 4 doors instead of 2
i love the golf plus ive only had it for 11 months

Exscooby - be careful with the Fabia - great as it is, mine wont fit our kids booster seats. Not sure abt baby seats but it is quite narrow on the back seats.

This was the similar dilemma for me, however the difference I suppose is whether you are buying new or used.

If you were to blow £22k (minimum) on a new a4 tdi, in my opinion whilst it is undoubtedly a cracking car, the cost difference between that, a passat se tdi (£6k) and the fabia vrs(£9k) cannot really be justified.

Having said that, of course the fabia is a very different sized car and might not be big enough to get prams and baby paraphanelia.

If you want a bigger car, and are looking at new, i would suggest to go for a passat - the spec and prices may surprise you. The passat's interior is now everything it wasnt before. It looks very upmarket even as standard and I defy anyone to find that sort of quality for £15-16k. If i was expecting a kiddie, it would be a no brainer.

The new Passat is a fantastic looking car - but for similar money as the 140 bhp PD TDI, you can get the 2.5 V6 160bhp TDI engined Skoda Superb. That would be my choice probably.

barsteward, you've only gone and defied me. Granted, fantastic value for money all round by skoda.

Anyway, i've just coughed up my £86 quid to Autotrader for the next 2 weeks in Lancashire & Yorkshire editions. Fookin gutted that this day has come so soon!

Looked at the prices locally for the wrx300 and as a result have pitched it in at £19300. Willing to accept lower in full knowledge that they are being sold elsewhere in the country for £19k as demonstrators or with a handful of miles preregistered.

There are some great bargains to be had on the outgoing Octy VRS, as low as 11k for a pre reg one - thats a whole lot of car for your money.

The Fabia sits on the Polo floorpan so yes it is smaller than your current Golf.

The Fabia doesn't have that much less interior space than the Old Golf or Octavia, from rear seat back to front footwell there is only an inch in it.

The Fabia is a tad tighter in the width department so three is more of a squeeze in the back.

Where the Fabia is pants is boot space, four shopping bags and its full. For four adults we will take either the Fabia or Octavia, when there is need for 5 adults or some boot space the Fabia stays at home.

Cheers
Lee

Hi Stu - thought I would highlight that the Polo sits on the Fabia chassis but obviously you were illustrating relative size

It was always dubbed as being the Polo floorpan but granted the Fabia got it first :-)
