Unhappy

It's because there's no 'mosh pit'. The immediate out front area is reserved for Geldof's elite. Boring politically correct farts who've no interest in the music whatsoever.

In response to Petem95

I'll repeat my boring Mantra. G8 are the one group who could stop the banks transferring dodgy money into African leaders' and politicians' bank accounts. If 80% of this was stopped then that would make a HUGE difference. But G8 won't do that 'cos it will hurt the big corporations. If only Geldof had gone strong on this aspect.....

As for Mugabe. I heard that Malawi supply the tear gas that Mugabe's heavies use so with neighbours like that what chance is there? Pity the SAS can't quietly take him and a couple of dozen of his cohorts out but I suppose that's too risky?

Anybody who saw the original Live Aid will know there was only a few memorable acts like Queen and U2, who can remember Madonna having things thrown at her and being slagged of on stage for instance.

I think the music is generally excellent, but there is a lot of self-congratulatory c*ck sucking and hypocrisy.

That "golden circle" for VIPs at the front ruins the entire atmosphere, and Geldof has the cheek to criticise people selling tickets while still allowing a smug set of boring people to hog the front.

No booze allowed for the audience, but everyone backstage is walking round with bottles or wine glasses in their hands.

Indeed. My feelings exactly. If I was there I would be really pissed off not to be able to get within about half a mile of the stage. I didn't know there was no booze allowed. That just stinks of PC hypocrisy and double standards.

If I were Pink Floyd; Id be praying that The Who died on their ****..... I admit that Im completely underwhelmed by Pink Floyd, but if The Who pull it together, who can follow them?

-Looking at the running order, I can see a good few turns that could have been cut to give the other performers a 15 minute set, 10 minutes just isnt long enough-

That was what prompted me to start the thread; mostly theyre standing still.....
People are just not used to large stadium style concerts anymore. And generally people are boring these days, they've forgotten how to enjot themselves.

On the other hand, it's 10 minutes too long for a lot of them

Why not scrap the entire lineup and let The Who and Pink Floyd perform all of Who's Next and DSOTM respectively.

It's not a stadium, though. One of the reasons for no atmosphere.

1. Too short sets
2. Not in a stadium
3. Crowd displaced from the front

They are still topping the bill though. They just can't make albums like those guys did anymore.

Default Thank god for this thread and a bit of clear headed thought...

There's a Live8 thread running on Pistonheads at the moment, seemingly populated by brainwashed sycophantic toadies, if you say anything slightly off message you basically get accused of machine-gunning baby Africans in their sleep.

The concert is supposed to be all about raising awareness, but all these people seem interested in is which band is best, and how they like Live8 more than everyone else.

It may well pick up later, however I wonder if half the audience was even alive when Floyd and the Who had current hits?

Cynical? Me? probably but everyone has the right to an opinion, if you want to be a sheep fair enough, but take away my right to a free opinion and you become no better than the to55ers in Africa letting their people starve for personal gain.

Rant over
Dave

I'm not really into mid-1970s rock gods, but Keane have been the best so far! Why put them on so early?

Cannot stand Annie Lennox, never could.

Mmmmmmm..... stereophonics I like him... and Brad Pitt!!!! Phwoar... Pete what's his face was a total embarrassment.... pissed up or drugged up I'd say - what a total tool.

Let's not all lose sight of what this is all about though hey... it's not about the concert, it's about the awareness for the unnecessary deaths caused by poverty.
