Haven`t seen your`s, but living in the country, I don`t get broadband till the end of the month , so I try to stay away from any vid other than the "myvideotalk thing" that I use,
I will re-post mine in the next few day`s with the audio, It add`s a little atmosphere to it :-)

My Mrs , Myself and our 12 yr old daughter did Jag`s first one of these on Tuesday 19th July, Thought you may like some comment’s .

Car’s, Tina, experienced fast road driver, wants to learn how far an Evo will go :-) Mitsi Evo as above, totally standard apart from wheels,( and she claim’s she kept the above top slide going and got it out straight hmmm ?) Me, done a bit of road rally, auto test etc 20 yrs ago wants to play with scoob in a reasonably safe environment and possibly learn something , slightly moded scoob, with very loud exhaust (115 db @ 2m @ 6000rpm) Tia, an unhealthy like for sitting in the back of car’s driven quickly, Simon , Instructor, Nice bloke, very patient, very good instructor, Couldn’t have spent the day with a better instructor, (but everybody said that about theirs )
Getting there , easy to find not far off M42/M40, Arrive for 8.45, escorted to control tower area, into briefing room (more like good quality hospitality suite, tea, coffee , biscuits, plasma with top gear on, table cloths, even Prodrive sweet’s ) meet everyone small chat about what we are doing for the day and health and safety "rule’s", As you NEVER drive without an instructor in the car, all this is really is that they reserve the right to send you home if you behave like a total idiot, Having the instructor with you all the time, you may think " I won’t be able to push it as hard as I’d like, I can assure you this is not the case, He was shouting "keep it in" long after I’d decided to brake :-) This got less and less through the day as I got quicker / more confident in what I / the car could really do,
This was our first exercise, The tower circuit, made up of lot’s of different surfaces from rough to very smooth, lot’s of tight corners, white line chicane down one straight, very good for learning your turn in speeds as if you miss the apex , it’s only white lines, but it is a good challenge to get it right, learn lot’s on braking/turn in point’s around rest of circuit, down the back straight about 130 ish head straight for the middle of the prodrive sign, don’t brake till you get to the cone, the cone starts the day IN THE SIGN !! ( well it looks like it :-) but by the end of the day you watch the cone go by roll a ciggy, have a sip of your coke , then think about braking, lol well maybe not :-)
this was done in my car then Tina’s, about 10 - 15 min`s each, I think we both decided when we / the car’s had had enough, Tina couldn’t believe the sweat she got on during driving ,
swap car’s , we used one then the other to let brake’s etc cool down, very sympathetic to the car’s, all day,
onto the skidpan, Two different surfaces , 1 as slippy as ice , the other not quite as bad, looked a bit like pebble- dash , (no frame on car) about 100-150 m long stripes, The aim was to go in straight, slide the car and get out the other end straight, ideally as fast as you can in one continues slide, not as easy as it sounds, it is as slippy as ice, took a fair few attempts, Tina had never done this sort of thing before, but by the end of the day was coming in "flat in 3rd" and getting it out ( top Evo photo) we also so did J turns, donuts, handbrakes, and try anything we wanted, I try`d , in forward’s > handbrake >backwards > J turn > out forwards, Only got it once, bloody reverse gate on gearbox :-)
A lot of fun and we both learnt a lot about car control,
Adverse handling course : not that much bigger than a cart track , designed to be as horrible to a car and driver as poss., wrong cambers , from grippy tarmac to shiny concrete , very tight hairpins, jump, also used to set up WRC cars / Prodrive PPP packs and many more, can only be described as “intense” 10 laps and you are sweating you bit’s off, Instructor shouting the corners and braking point’s, (and a lot of “keep it in , it will go round”) This was both of our favourites, ( all were very good But THIS ONE !!!!)
Then back to control for wee and a Tea, then do the 3 over again, surprising how much better you are on the second outing,
Then off for lunch, via the shell station, pub lunch , good choice of about 20-30 items including 16 oz steak and the usual beefeater/ Bernie/ bank’s type pub, food with a drink included in day’s price,
Unfortunately , They had a few complaints about the noise from a couple of car’s from their friendly lady NIMBY, fair enough my car comes in at 115db and explodes out of the exhaust every gearshift, and the other one beat my score on the db meter, they discuss it with us / the track manager and say we can use our cars “ a little bit” as long as we try to hold it down but instead we can use their cars !!! An (afair) 04 scoob and a 05 Mazda mx8 with 3000 miles on it, I got the Mazda a rwd :-)
We then had the choice of which exercises we wanted to play on , me and the mrs swapping from car to car, I think I did every exercise in all three car’s and the wife in both the Mazda and hers, (she don’t like the scoob, but after this she took it out last night and said it wasn’t as bad as she thought, )
We spent most of the afternoon on the adverse and skid, ending with a quick 10 laps in the scoob on the adverse till the phone rang, then up to tower circuit in the Mazda until the tower called us in at about 4.45,
All in all , a superb day , very well organised, looks a little on the expensive side compared to some track days, but this is not a track day, it is a driver training day, we did not stop all day ( you can anytime if you want but we are just greedy :-) you are instructed to a very high standard for as much as you want to do, and pushed, well more encouraged to see what you and your car can do, It is something towards a corporate day out, good hospitality , the best toilets I have ever seen on an airfield, more like the toilet in an high quality mobile home, cleaned by a top hotel, ( you can tell a lot by the toilets lol :-) ) they cater for all abilities and car’s and I would say we both learnt an awful lot,
Highlights of the day,
Tina catching a far more powerful car on the adverse handling in the evo , then doing it again in the Mazda later, (she’d never driven a rwd before) the slide in the picture on the skidpan where the instructor didn’t think she would get back and did, and the best donut I have ever seen / been in, (about 15 ish on the exact same spot, had to stop due to disorientation lol )
Me, The adverse handling course, getting round the little section in the woods in 3rd (only once, last run of the day, you had to be there :-) , Finding Mr Ap is even better at designing brakes than I thought and Mr Subaru is quite capable of transporting a family of four in reasonable comfort around a small tarmac50 yrd straight > 90 right > shiny concrete immediate 90 L > 15 yrd 90 L > Rough tarmac > 90 R lift a wheel over the hole, touch the bushes on the N/S shave the cone on the inside hook 4th and try to stay off the rough tarmac on the outside and away from the Armco, as I said you had to be there :-)
Tia, The dounut in Tina’s , the final lap in mine, The skidpan in general in all of them, the adverse in mine ( she is strapped in, with a padded roll cage to hang on to and did learn not to hit her head over the jump lol :-)) she says she will do her own review but don’t hold you breath J
Hope this has been useful (cause it’s taken me long enough to type with two fingers, any spelling / grammar mistakes please feel free to not bother telling me about )
We will be going again in the near future, probably later in the year to try to get a cold wet day, just in time to perfect our sideways driving for winter .
Have a good one all
Tim, Tina, Tia,
ps you also get vid`s / pic`s and a free prodrive pen and keyring !!!
