Yeah Litts is a good shop, I've known the guys there for years... used to see grumpy Mal and the rest of them on the shooting circuit quite a lot!

The shooting ground is worth a visit too!

had a bad experience with litts when they tried ot sell me a s/h mk38 as a brand new gun.

 

I have been taking a break from it a bit over the last year or so, but my main haunts were Mendip shooting ground and any CPSA registered sporting comps in the south west.

I used to shoot at Litts every week several years back, but the bloke running the ground started getting on our **** a bit, so we started frequenting Mendip instead.

I went back there towards the end of last year to find that Andy, the bloke who used to be the trapper, is now running the ground, so I may well join up again because he is a sound bloke!

That's a bit dodgy with the 2nd hand gun.... Never had any problems at the shop myself.... not once you get used to the frosty Welsh reception!

What happened there then? Genuine accident/misunderstanding or were they trying it on?

I have always had good deals from them....

 

I've got 3 different guns. 1*Miroku MK70 Sporting 12g, 1*Beretta AL390 Lioness 12g Anniversary Edition and a Beretta Silver Pigeon 20g.

All shot differently, but the one I pick up the most is the Miroku, as I can get it to do most disciplines.

ajm - they were trying it on, i had rung the day before and was told there was a brand new 32" mk38 trap gun and the price was £850. i went down and basically said i had phoned the day before and X went out the back to go and find said gun. it took a good 5 mins but he came out with a mk38 trap gun in very good condition. i asked a few questions about why the barrels had lead down them, was answered with that was proof testing, thought fair enough. then we noticed a few light scratches, the gun was in a grade 5 plastic box and not a card box. a few things just didnt add up. well i was still tempted until i took the forend off, it was at that point i shook the gun from side to side and you could feel play on the hinge pin!!! not a good sign. anyway they were convinced it was new, i said it wernt , X argued boxed it back up and dissapeared out the back. i left rather disillutioned. anyway i checked the serial no. as i had written it down and it was stamped NV which indicated year of manufacture as 1995 !!!. needless to say i havent been back since. i had previously bought 3/4 guns from them without a hitch and thousands of cartridges.

i do the sporting scene a fair bit, usually registered around the west mids area.

 

Been offered a 12g 30" Silver Pigeon III Sporter for £960 as new. A little more than I wanted to spend. Only thing that puts me off over price is the external chokes which dont look too good visually.

Anyone got one of these lovely guns?

Do you in the mainland have to do the following for a licence..
3. Farmers/landowners
2. Referee's (non-related,not to be a serving policeman or firearms dealer)
Access to your medical records
Good reason to own said firearm
What quarry you will shoot
Also if after a year you decide to buy another gun semi automatic/side by side you have to have good reason why you want another gun and hold on to the one you already have.It was said it was to bring gun licences through out the UK all under the same application laws.

Mad, it is recommended that you belong to a shooting club, or have a written agreement with a landowner with rights to shot on their ground.

As re. the referee's, when I applied it was 2, not sure now. But any professional person can do it. IE. Director of a company, licensee, etc.

Cant remember about the medical records, but it wouldnt surprise me.

The good reason being that its a great way to relax.

The local firearms team will know most of the places that you would shot locally, so wouldnt worry to much about that.

No extra reason for buying a second or third gun. Just so long as the cabinet can handle the amount.

You might also get a visit when you purchase 2nd/3rd firearms.

Are you talking shotgun certificate of firearms cert? Different kettle of fish with the latter being harder to obtain.

Believe it or not all that I mentioned is for a shotgun certificate.

 

Ah I think people may have been confused as you used the term 'firearm' in your post.

In the UK you simply apply for a shotgun licence. You don’t need to prove suitable use for it - its up to the police to prove you shouldn’t have one. As long as your mentally and medically sound you should be able to obtain one.

You will need a referee but I used my manager at work. As long as they’ve known you for over 2 years and manage more than 20 people then the police were ok with it. Not like some horror stories you hear that it has to be a Dr, Lawyer, MP etc that knows you well.

You will have a visit by your local FLO to check your house security. You should have a gun cabinet securely fitted i.e. to a wall and out of sight to visitors before they will give you the licence.

A Firearm Certificate is somewhat harder to gain. Police normally require you to be a member of a club for a certain period of time or have permission to use a firearm on someones land. They also require 2 references I believe.

Agree with mr hunt, i have the browning and is a great gun, i use mine for clay shooting. The old man has a bereta and have had a few shots with that another nice gun and a bit cheaper than the browning.

leaning towards a new 686 silver pigeon s at the moment,but the bettinsoli diamondline appeared to a good gun too and for two thirds the price.Bettinsoli also gets a ggod review in this months sporting gun as a goodsecond hand buy(would be buying new myself).Its a case of head says bettinsoli,heart says beretta.Thought someone here would have at least shoot the bettinsoli but it appears not.Anyway hope you get your 682 P1.

Only got a couple and none are full pics soz. Put gives you an idea of what they look like. This is an older one about 8 yrs old. To me they look a lot better than the current Berettas which have that machined clinical look.

You tend to be a Beretta or Browning man, with the minority using something else

I have a Beretta 682 Gold E 32" MC sporter for clays, and a Franchi 612 28" MC 3 shot semi auto in cammo for rough/pigeon shooting (and a .22 BSA Superten carbine in cammo for bunny/corvid bashing, and a Weihrauch HW97 .22 for whatever else )

Just been out on a friend's paddocks and potted three bunnies with the Beezer just before dark, and got dinner in return

 

Yep got her. In great nick. Took her for a test run before buying [at West London Target Sports]. Very reasonable £5.50 for a single round of skeet.

Off to Cornwall mid week for a long weekend to see the parents so will have to take it down and take me old man out and dust some clays.

Would post some pics but the missus took the digi camera away for the weekend.

A cheap option is to buy a Miroku.
They are made under licence by Barretta, but they cost less. I got one a couple of years ago, a Miroku 70 sport cost £880 with bag.
I've also got a Barretta DT10 Sporting, but that cost a bit more, £5000. Better balance though, and a joy to shoot with.

 

I bought a nearly new 30" Browning 425 sporter, cost about £700 and is still very tight and I use it for Sporting, Skeet & DTL. (was at Bisley today doing DTL).

Chokes are fixed at 1/2 and 3/4 but that saves me worrying about which chokes I should use and lets me concentrate on accuracy.

Definately reccomend one
