Hi Guys,

Just a quick note to introduce myself. Steve's the name, i live in Keelby just outside of Grimsby. Just brought my first Scooby, just getting my first headaches with it too Just as well i have 3 months warranty, the dealer i brought it from is up north, non Subaru dealer too, so its off to Doncaster for a check opn Friday. Just looked under the front seats and found both yellow Air bag sensors lying unconnected, but with a resistor bridging the connectors. Lost loads of power low end too, gonna try a new airsensor hopefuly tommorow if i can blag a few minutes use out one at a scap yard in Sheffield. I noticed a little turbo knock when engine was cold today at tickover, although that went after engine was warm. Its only done 27K miles on a 53 plate, well gutted!
Cheers for now

steve,

hello m8, nice of you to come on and say hi.

well for what you have just wrote, it sounds a bit like a horror story fella

27k on a MY53 is **** all and you have a turbo knock when cold?

what makes you think its the turbo?

by loss of power at bottom end, is there any juddering when you put your foot down to the floor, but it feels like it wants to go?

the garage at doncaster where your going to take it has got a very good reputation, so they should sort things out for you m8.

maybe see you soon at one of our meets

Hi,

Sorry to hear all that.

So have any air bag warning lights come on after you reconnected them?

Cant say I've ever heard of a turbo knocking, they usually whistle when the bearings are on the way out and not usually on a 27k motor.

To check for a worn turbo you need to check for play on the impellar shaft, if you can pull it in and out slightly then it is probably worn.

As for a loss of power have you had a play with anything under the bonnet?
Has the check engine light come on?

Did you get a HPI check for the car?

Has it been accident damaged?

If you are not happy then get a decent mechanic to check it over for signs of a shunt or other damage that the dealer hasnt declared.

Then you will be in a decent position to get your money back.

steve,

just read your report on your scoob and it sounds very good. Been played with by the sounds of it.

if youve had a fair bit done to it, it might want a re-map, that could be your problem

Hi Acko,

My diognostic of the Turbo may be wrong, just something i hadnt heard before, the engine sounds sweet, it just sounded like a lilttle dry knowck for a few seconds, it was deffo not coming from the engine, i had the bonnet up and my headinside just in time to hear it before it went. No juddering at all when accelerating, just feels like someone is pulling me back until i hit over 3500 rpm then it wants to go, but then has slight hessitation and small missfire. Most people ive talked too think its the MAF, it used to pulkl like a rocket at any rpm all the way through all gears. The car is bassically a WRX that has the interior exterior of an sti but has genuine PPP fitted, along with Full Afterbuner exhaust system, cant see a cat anywhere! so i know its loosing massive power from somewhere Guttednon the less, its bad enuf that my missus has a mardy *** over me buying it anyways, never mind the grief i cant do much in it too ! Dang!

Probably is the Maf by the sounds of it, the cats are usually on the down pipe after the turbo and a small centre section.

I'd be interested to know what the knocking is you heard, hope you get it all sorted at Doncaster and get any money back you have to lay out.

Excellent fella,

I'm sure you'll get it sorted.

Dont worry about the missus, ours are just the same, my missus accused me of wanting to **** my car if it was possible.
I replied with " it would probably have more go in it"

Red face

Evening All

DOncaster Scooby had a quick look over at my problems today. Its going back next week for a full check up. Air bag problem sorted. THey thought m,y problem of loss of power was due to using unleaded and not super octane, i said ill try but i think ure wrong. It was running great on normal unleaded ok.

I put a new maf sensor in, made jack all difference. I can run the car up to 120mph no probs as long as i dnt mind waiting a year, 0-60 must be around 9-11 seconds still. missfiring under hard acceleration, im sure the problem must be turbo , even though it sounds great, maybe the wastegate? The reason i say this is that before if i floored it in first and then foot off, the dump valve wooshed out loud and clear and made me lurch forward in the seat! It feels like an elastic band is winding this up and not a turbo. Im wundering, has the wastegate blown? leaving the turbo unabl;e to build up any pressure? Maybe im barking up the wrong tree but something is ammiss for sure. 0-60 was well sub 5.5 secs b4.

Twas a beast!

Hope your having a great day. Cheers for now
