My dad says a motorbike test is the hardest test he has ever done also he tows a caravan behind a landcruiser and reverses it around a massive campsite with centimeter gaps to spare i agree and i know because i did a motorcycle test.

Being a courier makes you do mad things - braketesting a lorry on a motorbike
Anyhow, to cut long story short, Highway Code 144 ( Click Here ) states
& more importantly for HGV
QED
Anyhow, to cut long story short, Highway Code 144 ( Click Here ) states
144: Being overtaken. If a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pass. Never obstruct drivers who wish to pass. Speeding up or driving unpredictably while someone is overtaking you is dangerous. Drop back to maintain a two-second gap if someone overtakes and pulls into the gap in front of you.
145: Do not hold up a long queue of traffic, especially if you are driving a large or slow moving vehicle. Check your mirrors frequently, and if necessary, pull in where it is safe and let traffic pass.

It's drivers like you that help to give truckers such a bad name!

I think it might be useful to reflect that for the most part the complaints aired here stem from the fact that you are discussing vehicles that are fitted with a speed limiter. By the nature of these devices there will be small differences between them and, in turn, this will allow some vehicles to travel slightly faster than others.
In the near future your car is going to be fitted with a similar device that wll act to limit your speed. However, its operation will not be as simple or predictable as limiting you to 56mph on the motorway. You will also find your car slowing down, almost randomly, for "dangerous" sections of road or even in wet weather. The target of the greens and anti-car lobby is to limit all vehicles to 40mph and, as already pointed out, they are using the 40mph HGV limit on single carriageways to enforce this limit upon private motorists by stealth.
People in green houses really should not throw stones and while you may not think you are in the green house yet you are actually beyond the point of making an escape.
So, watch the HGV drivers closely, they are demonstrating the use of techniques you are going to be needing yourself in the very near future.

now if we had a government who actually thought about transport policy, the follwing two laws would be imnplemented..
on dual carrageways, no overtaking for artics... and they must occupoy the inside lane at all times, the outer lane being a overtaking / car lane...
and turning right from the left hand lane on a roundabout,,,
what WAN*KER in power hasnt yet seen you bloody dangerous that is...
if F*CkIN easy two lanes... left lane = straight on or left.. Right lane= straight on or right
three lanes left lane left only. middle lane straight on right lane straight on or right..
solves all the stupid numptys who learnt to drive with red flags from causing mayhem on roundabouts..
oh f*ck it NL policy, if its simple and could save lives lets not do it and waste millions on cameras to do the same job!!

There should be training in both lorry & motorbike activities in the driving test. Would save a lot of stupid numpties driving up the right-hand side of a lorry, who is clearly signalling right, albeit in the left lane and then having to brake when the trailer swings into their lane.
A little more patience and tolerance to all road users from all road users would be beneficial these days.

We should have the same road laws as america but as always we are behind in some ways. With the amount of tax we pay we should have a 4 lane motorway each side with free services every 3 miles ( like france almost ).

I agree. Far too many people are demonstrating woefully inadequate knowledge of the highway code. HGVs approaching roundabouts in the left lane while signalling right is one situation actually covered in it!
We should sit everyone down to read it through once in a while. I reckon you'd hear "Kinell, I didn't know that" every couple of seconds.

BTW To the two tesco drivers who occupied over 6 miles overtaking and re-overtaking each other on the A34 past Newbury yesterday, I hope it took you a f**king long time to regain your 56.33mph after the p!ssed off bloke in the Merc estate got ahead of you then slowed you down to 25 at the foot of that hill

I'd like to know how many of those that are slagging off HGV drivers have actually taken either an HGV or IAM driving test. Very few I suspect from their comments. Just goes to show what amateur drivers they are having only taken a simple 30 minute test which a even trained monkey could pass
