I bought a03WRX wagon new thinking i would be happy with it.Every time i saw a STI i thought why didnt i buy one of them.Started to mod my WRX and it started to get expensive.Took all my bits off the WRX and traded it in for a 54 plate STI.I use it to comute every day and have no problems, the car is a ***** cat to drive and i enjoy it more than my WRX.If most people were honest with them selves they would prefer the STI and it was no dearer to insure JASON

i wanted a scooby for 5 years, just couldnt afford one, new job came along about the same time live in girlfriend went....good that... lol
brought an 02 WRX and although i can understand the STi is a better car, in mosr ways i feel attatched to my WRX and love it to bits.
Would not chop it in for STi and dont regret getting my Scoob.
If i want to go faster i will mod what i have, at least then it will be personal to me, which is what this is all about isnt it?
But thats just me

fair point mate, i also thought and still do in the same way, but !
seats
bonnet scoop
tyres
gear change light and beeper
225 wheels, not 215
spoiler
water spray injection
std 265 not 225, 333bhp easy to obtain
different head
better suspension
gear chrome surround
6 speed box thats doesnt fail when modded, (unlike wrx)
Brembos !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and go knows what else
according to TSL a wrx 04 will acheive 290 bhp max for around 2.5 k (decat incl up pipe, fuel pump,re-mapp etc,to go further you to spend serious money, like heads etc
then, you still need to get the wider tyres and wheels and the brembos and eibach springs fitted, then geom set up ,maybe strut or anti lifts or whatever is needed
and tell the insurance company

Happy with MY05 WRX but yeh theres definitely a part of me that fancies a STI. Still looking hard at PPP and i am pretty sure that will end up as my compromise.
Mind you a WR1 is the dream. I have got this plan to get rich !!! All i have got to do is pick 6 numbers that match six that come out of an electric barrel.
This time next year ill be a millionaire...............

Sti all very well but dont they all look the same ? Don't get me wrong in a couple of years i'll probably get one but anyone nuts about scoobys will always want to make theirs faster or different and thats what its all about isn't it
Or... am i missing the point ?
Anyway seen a nice T25 today so im saving my pennies

Interesting reading this thread. I'm hoping to take delivery of my 53 STI (with TSL 333 next week) and hope that the power rivals my current modded UK Classic (circa 316bhp)
I did look at the WRX intially but the demo car @ KT Greens was truly awful. Handling was a shocker and the power delivery felt non existent. Perhaps it was that particular car but it soured my perceptions.
As mentioned earlier I've thrown tousands at my current Classic. Wish I'd have chose the STI to begin with but like majority have said I think the funds/ insurance are some of the main factors in choosing a suitable but less expensive replacement.

am I a bit mad then??
Ive just ordered my Sti ppp as my everyday car.
Mind you Im coming from an integra, which is quite a noisy harsh ride, and I loved that.
To stand out less,
Im getting a black one with anthracite instead of gold wheels.
Bit worried about the huge spoiler. Is the lower spoiler the same one as the WRX???
Should be getting it next week.(and the Prodrive pack was free)
BTW insurance was no hassle thru Norwich union, who have STI Type UK Prodrive on their list. Paid £700.

I could'nt afford a sti at the time so I got wrx,I modded it a bit at a time and now i've got a wrx with more power and better handling than a sti...every thing comes to those who wait.

To be completely honest,i used to want the Sti-but i then had a but of a run in with one(UK and a import on seperate occations) and was expecting to see them leave me behind, but was suprised to find my car (02UK WRX)was able to actually go a little quicker than them-even had to back off a tad,and could even then still pull up on them!!!
The only mechanical mods on mine are a WRSbackbox(allready on car when brought),Dawes set at a reliable 1bar(£25),knocklink(£120),Scoobysport decat up/down pipes(£350) and Eibachs(£90 off ebay)-so not a lot of money really for a car thats noticibly quicker than an sti.
Dont get me wrong though-im not slagging off Sti's,theyre cracking motors, but as said before, ive made my car MY car,all for £585!!! which just happens to be quicker than an Sti.

The only thing I would like to change with the STI would be 60/40 split fold seats like the budget version WRX.

I have to say-IMO its not even worth having the hole through the middle of the seat.

Got my black MY03 WRX this week, so i'm very happy with it
I prefer the looks on the WRX (more discrete) rather than the STI.
If wanted a lot more power, i think i would go with an EVO rather than the STI.....

Had my MY05 WRX a few weeks now, and no, I wouldn`t change as I never liked the big spoiler on the STi, or the bigger scoop (Maybe the old git in me). I feel the STi is too much "in yer face".
May go for PPP later on with mine, but quite happy at the moment, as it usually destroys most things in its way anyhow

I've been lucky enough to trade my 01WRX in for an 05STi with PPP and I love it to bits. If the finances had been tighter I'd have gone for another WRX and been just as happy with that. There's a massive difference between the two cars but both are fantastic and have their own advantages over each other.
I know I must like the STi better though. I've even washed it myself a couple of times.
