Dont buy it, Sony have announced they will not do plasmas any more, you could be stuck with something unrepairable or unseviceable. Buy a Panasonic, now their much better.
Sony seemed to struggle with Plasmas, reports were never good, so their decision is not surprising

Very true, the NEC screens seem to be very good lately

This has been a sinking ship from the word go really, Sony massively underestimated the take up on plasma and LCD products and put absolutely zero investment into developing them.

Ultimately they found themselves in a situation where other manufacturers had plasma and LCD products on the market and so had to very quickly buy in some cheap technology for re-badging. Samsung was the original one and they were very poor, they now use LG I believe which are better but still come nowhere near the likes of Panasonic, Pioneer, NEC, Hitachi, etc.

Plasmas need a very good source, DVD is generally good on most half-decent sets, but Analogue is terrible, Sky a bit better (until they transmit HDTV), and free-view better still..

Pioneer are currently the best sets in all the reviews, but Id look for yourself, as Ive seen some terrible TV's which get an apparent 5 star rating..

Also many TV's share Tubes / Plasma Panels... Both Loewe and Band and Olufsen use phillips tubes, and Loewe make some of the best CRT sets available..

Bull****, HDTV wont be out til next year on 1 OR 2 channels on Sky and it'll be ludacriously expensive... it'll be a good 5 years before it becomes the norm for TV sets... in fact sky have not even announced the exact spec. for a start their set top box will be produced by Thomson.... that will tell you the quality for a start

as DJUK points out.... Sony were never interested in Plasmas.... it was only until they realised they were behind in the times that they were too late to invest and ended up buying Samsung (IIRC) panels rebadged.....

as many others said check out www.avforums.com for more useful info

A range of views here for you to consider. For my part I refer you to this thread, especially where the advice on interconnects is concerned.........
