Cool

As I have pontificated many times on this BBS (same subject) I get 300 miles plus to a tank, with no bother, on SUL.

I learned many years ago what things hurt fuel consumption, eg. accelerating up steep hills like a nurk, and "flooring" it. Petrol needs to be fed in gradually so the engine can burn it without wasting it.

The petrol we pay for buys us stored momentum. The more efficiently you use up that expensive momentum the better your mpg. That does not mean you have to drive slowly anywhere or impair your macho (or femacho!) posturing. Simply accelerate sensitively and keep off those brakes!

The number of half wits who I see accelerating like crazy to pass me in the outside lane of a motorway when it is obvious they are going to have to brake almost immediately never ceases to amaze me. Far better to lose the momentum naturally.

I can offer blessings and forgiveness for those inept car users who cannot work this out.

"For he who is without care for fuel efficiency shall be cast into the eternal fires of LPG" (Premium 4:3)

Otis, your car is faster than mine, so you will get poorer mpg, what do you expect?

Question

I've recently been on hols with my 99 car and experienced an average consumption of 31-32....yes thats 31-32 mpg. The rub is that you have to have your mother in law in the car to achieve this figure......No ,seriously, the main part of the journeys being made were on French motorways and "A" roads where speeds were 70 UPWARDS!....but mostly 85-90.Car was fully loaded,5 up and I guess that the true consumption was in 34-35 region at times cos off the main roads and driving hard resulted in the usuall "you can see the guage moving" cenario.....as mentioned by others this is just the mapping leaning off under constant throttle / boost conditions for extended periods.....pity there wasn't a lean switch to replace the brightness switch!!!!!!!

Get the nagging wife and young baby upgrade - does wonders for the fuel economy. Adjustable too - leave them at home and the performance increases but fuel economy goes down. It's like having adjustable boost ...

Well this is true but un-believable

MY00 - 5850miles - Top box on pulling a 800kg folding camper = 25mpg

No top box/camper = 17mpg

Weird or what??
