Here we are a full five days after the dealer was informed i was rejecting the car due to the very poor condition it was in. As promised i will now put up the report I have received from the Subaru specialist which inspected the 22b.




I'd like to hear some informed comments on the condition of the vehicle from the summary above by the inspector.

The next step now will be naming the dealer. Somebody has already contacted me to tell me of suspected fraud on behalf of the same dealer.

Sounds like car has had huge damage and possible full rebuild,by someone who only half knew what they was doing.Gearbox rebuild at this kinda mileage is suspect as well...Did this car physically look OK to you when you first went to view it?Car sounds rough just by description..What is the interior like?..No real mention of that!! Or was outside enough??

Anyway..try your best to get money back and PM people the place that tried to stitch you up with this pup..

I would not have walked away from this car. After seeing that report, I would have run a mile You really want to try and get your deposit back, sounds like it is in a right state.

don't get me wrong, this car sounds like a proper dog

but, if it wasn't for the mecanical(?) problems surely a lot of other things are just wear and tear? albeit very worn and torn

paint isn't a major problem if it's done properly, TBH my car could do with a front end respray thru bloody stone chips on the waffer thin paint. maybe same with the repair, a new panel for the 22b would cost a fortune.

heat sheilds get taken off all the time and jacking points can be mullered very easily if you're a bit cack handed with the subaru jack.

as stated at the begining, this car is a dog that's had a very hard life with little or no mecanical sympathy passed onto it and should be avoided like the plague, but AA/RAC inspections do cast a very damning view on cars (and rightly so, that's why you do them) and i've yet to see one really praising a car.

A simple reply to this. If you were looking for a 22b ,would you now buy this car knowing whats wrong with it at the price stated?

The car was shiney and buffed in the showroom, and to the untrained eye looked to have only a few problems.

Granted paint etc can be down to wear and tear and "a hard life". However, multiple heat shields missing, serious mechanical issues, paint on roof?????? No matter how much wear and tear there is, you'd expect engine components like heat shields to be present. And the prospect of a leaky gearbox and engine doesn't instill too much hope for the engine rebuild that was apparently carried out 750 miles ago.

I have never in the several cars Ive had reports on had a car with paint on the roof in the inspection, especially on a car with such low mileage. And, not forgetting, this can be described as a collecters car and issues such as paint and accident damage count for more than same issues on an 10 year old Mondeo.

The advert describes this car as amazing, amazing it certainly is at a showroom price for a trade at very best value. What's amazing is somebody buying this car and trusting the dealer that they are buting a car that's worth showroom prices.

I have sent the dealer a copy of this report this evening by recorded delivery and again asking for my deposit back.

the mecanical woes of this car alone would send me running in the opposite direction.

i wouldn't touch this car with a barge pole even for a massively reduced price, sorry if my post led anyone to think for one second this would be any sort of a half decent car to buy

Cant believe they didnt return the deposit on the basis of that list.

At the risk of getting this thread vaped though (because as soon as the dealer in question suggests any form of legal proceedings against Scoobynet this thread will go, which is fair enough to be honest as the inital liablity becomes theirs) which will be counterproductive.

I'd use another thread to do so if you are going to do, or just leave enough indications for people here to come to their own conclusions without a direct name- which I'm sure most of us will be capable of doing so quite easily...

Anymore info on this? Have you mentioned any of this on bbs.22b.com? If not, it might be worthwhile, as many people pop over there when looking at 22B's

As nothing was in writing apart from the receipt with the jobs that needed doing (that I noticed), apparently Im not entitled to a refund as the garage were willing to rectify any faults. IMHO I cant see them doing that to a level that would satisfy me, but anyway I have accepted half of my deposit back.

If I had in writing that Id reject the car due to excessive problems found by an independent inspector id be on more comfortable ground.


The above report would come in handy to anybody looking at a 22b at graham Walkers in Cheshire, the 22b described as amazing on the website

If it is described as amazing, then you do have grounds to get your money back. That description is inaccurate, and misleading.

If they are STILL advertising it like that, that is even further proof that they are not acting responsibly. Take further advice, don't give up unless you can afford to loose the cash.

Id consider a visit to the County Court; theres little chace that you wont win; costs too.

i had a similar experience when as a teenager i put a deposit on a nova sri dependent on inspection-the aa man said he detected 5 shades of red on the bonnet alone!!!
i went to the dealer who had said that he would rectify everything on aa inspection then declined,i asked for cheque back and he said he would send it 2 weeks later no reply so on my way back from work dropped off outside the garage in works van and chatted to salesman in quite straight terms about the car in font of the customers he was talking to and suddenly i had the money in my hand,ah the days of youth

When I had a problem with my car from Graham Walkers,Matt who is Grahams son was very reasonable and I was offered a full refund.As I was mostly happy with the car I kept it and gave them a chance to sort it out. After reading Prosports report it would seem that the 22b isn't the best example and John Doe was probably best to walk away as he did.In Walkers defence though they do offer to hold cars for £250 for a few days while inspections etc are carried out,they only ask for £500 to totally take the car off sale.
It is a shame that John had a bad experience with Walkers but I hope this wont put too many people off using them because I was very happy with the way I was treated by them.

The white dial guages are the 3 guages you get aftermarket in a pod and are based where the small compartment is (top of dash above heaters). I dont have a current GGR price list, but £1000 seems a bit much for 3 guages in a treble pod holder. Wasn't a selling point for me

Initially dealt with Matt who seemed a genuine guy, but was passed over to Neil.

The £250 optional inspection deposit wasn't offered to me, and it was 10 days before the car was 'ready' for inspection after the faults I picked out were dealt with.
