Very sad news just when we thought he was on the road to recovery
what a fantastic thread, it just goes to show the measure of a man who can find time to talk to us all on SN and even respond to individuals!!
Bless him.

absolutely gutted.................he is one of the greats, his driving style was so relaxed and so well suited to the Impreza of all the cars I saw him drive, he looked he was just driving to the shops not thrashing through a rally stage.
I wish him well

Very sorry to hear this news. Saw him a few years ago at GFOS, he spent plently of time signing autographs and chatting to people. I wish him all the best.

Am I missing something? Has he been found with another brain tumour? As the CNN link above shows it was some time back that he was first diagnosed. There was a post about a month ago saying all was going well. Have things gotten worse again?
Yes I'm not too sure about dicussing it, but he came on here a few times and I personally thought he was a likeable sort so it's genuine concern for someone who was dealt a bad hand.

haven't heard any further news, this is why this recent news is quite shocking as the last reports i heard were that richard was on a good road to recovery.

This thread is confusing, it doesnt say if this is based on the old diagnosis or the current condition Richard is experiencing. I hope it is the former, Richard was making good progress after his initial treatment that was very debilitating.
Best wishes to Richard, he is a nice guy and a superb driver/ambasador for the sport.

I don't know how much is official as yet.
To be clear. This thread was started based on NEW information, not a repeat of old information.
It would be wrong to say exactly what this news is until I try to find out what is official and what is private.
In the same way, can I please ask everyone to consider Richard and his family above everything else in this thread. In other words... if you are not absolutely sure that the information you are giving out is public domain knowledge, then please take care not to mention it.
I know this is frustrating for everyone becuase it is absolutely clear that everyone's intentions are merely concern and kindness.
I will attempt to find out what is official when I get back to the UK later in the week and will post an update.
All the best
Simon

Richard *had* a category 4 tumour. When this all came out originally it was beleived it was a very operable / less virile tumour but it was actually pretty agressive and advanced.
He is now recovering / in remission, but the word is that he will never be able to race again, which is of course a massive shame but not unexpected.
