There you go again ...... talking utter crap, you know NOTHING!!

Look up the figures I have given and dispute them if you can! Try a Google search .... its simple

Certainly Swindon and Oxfordshire are high payers as well as Hampshire ... don't even think I don't know this subject inside out!

Red face

Well if you want to resort to childish name calling then so be it Pete. As a result, this is where I stop posting on this thread, (off to find someone more intelligent and less bigoted to talk to). But before I go, I'll lay out some facts for you...
  • I have several friends who are teachers, ranging from nqts to seasoned pros (30+ years service)
  • None of them fit into your wages structure, and are paid (generally) a lot less than you suggest.
  • They all work VERY hard and deserve every penny they get (and in my opinion more)
  • None of the heads at any of the schools that my friends teach at have company cars, (although they are fairly well paid).
  • They are expected to work far in excess of any "normal" job, and are continually unappreciated by government and the general public (as demonstrated by this thread).
I have no idea why this does not tie in with your overwhelming knowledge on the subject, but there you go. Facts are facts....

Back on subject, yes I think the NUT is outdated, but so is any union that believes in strike action over the wellbeing of the members or their customers (in this case the children). That's why all my friends are in the PAT which does not believe in strike action....

Here endeth my participation on this thread...

GOOD!!!

You will notice not one ounce of FACTS emerged from Iain ...... and now that he has come up against someone who knows what they are talking about he tucks in his butt and runs away!!

Please, anyone, try and fault my figures?

Indeed, they are correct ...... never let a Teach tell you they aren't well paid - let them say its a hard job, let them say they work in the holidays, let them say they don't like the free holidays skiing with their spouses ......... but NEVER fall for the old "I'm a hard-up Teacher" line!!

Not running away Pete, just bored with trying to argue with you, (got better things to do)...

Those things you have stated as fact are just guidelines as to what people should be paid. It doesn't mean that they are being paid that much, (which the obviously are not in some cases). The only way I can reveal actual hard fact is to give the names and salaries of my friends out to everyone, and I'm not about to do that on a public bulletin board.

And that's my final, final word on the subject

Obviously you can't read very well then Pete.

The only facts I can provide are the name and salaries of my friends, and I'm not doing that on a public bbs...

Where are the hard facts supporting your arguement?

Have your tea .... just don't argue with someone who knows much more than you next time

Pete

Oh, yes, you don't know the salaries of your friends!!

If actually asking genuine teachers about the subject isn't classed as research, then I don't know what is.

What you say is heresay, what I say is FACT and can be backed up from governments own figures!!
In your opinion. I think what I say is fact because it is backed up by a pay cheque each month. I pitty the poor fool who actually trusts government figures (no matter who is in power). They're just massaged into looking good for the general public and have no real relevence the the real world.

Have your tea .... just don't argue with someone who knows much more than you next time
Well next time, I'll try and find someone who actually does know more than me on the subject before trying to avoid them!!

Oh, yes, you don't know the salaries of your friends!!
Yes I do, and they know mine. So to you....

I have been watching this thread and I trying not going to get involved.

I just want to thank those who are supporting the teachers.... it is appreciated

I'm a primary school teacher and have been teaching for 5 years.
My starting pay was £15,000 and that was with graduate points.

I'm not earning 25k yet ...... I would love a job in one of these schools that you are talking about pslewis???????
I didn't become a teacher for the money.... I don't complain about my job.

I make a difference to someones life every day ..... do you?

Hey if you think its so easy why don't you do a job swap with me for a week?

Attitudes like yours do make me wonder why I bother sometimes.
A child in my class might be the doctor replacing your worn out knees one day!

I might be grooming a brain surgeon just for you!

Isn't there a dire shortage of teachers? There are very regular news articles saying so. If so this would imply that even if they're being paid £100k/pa then it's not enough.

Good education is critical for the future success of this country. I'd rather pay more tax, improve our schools and have our teachers salaries on a par with other professional jobs. It would be nice if talented young people could be tempted into the profession rather than head off into accountany, banking etc and the remuneration package for teachers pitched at such a level that schools could actually be choosy as to who they employ.

Gary.

I do indeed - however, I do NOT get paid a penny for all the effort and time I invest in the school and young people, I object to you implying that I do otherwise! ..... this is in ADDITION to my 'normal' job!

£25k for a Primary School Teacher is excellent I would say!

If you want more pay why not try the challenge of the 11-16 year olds? With respect THATS where the wages I list are earned (and quite rightly!)

Enjoying your 2 week Easter Break are you? Good!!

There is a shortage, not dire ..... its improving as there are 1,000's of extra graduates starting in teaching - the rewards are so good now that youngsters are seeing it as a very viable option.

In 5 years time there will no longer be a shortage - demographics takes care of that with the additional graduate numbers.

Loosely answering the question in the thread title I'd say yes, the NUT is stuck in the 70's.

Any union who thinks striking is the way to get what you want is out of order in my book. We all have aspects of our jobs and conditions we'd like to improve or alter but action which affect others (in this case the children of course) should be avoided at all costs.

The firemen really nailed home the coffin lid on my sympathy with regards to this sort of issue.

True, but loads are leaving as well.

At my mums school, (secondary), they advertised for over a year before they actually managed to get a science teacher with the appropriate qualifications (able to teach a-level physics etc). There is a definitely hole where the sciences are concerned. They also have French / Italian people teaching English, as they couldn't find English teachers in this country (or at least, not in the Swindon area)!!!

Agree Iain, we have a vacancy for Head of Maths, advertised twice and only had one applicant ..... despite being a top school and in a rural area!

What hurts me is spending £1000 in advertising when nothing comes of it! I want to spend it on the kids!

We have a low leaving rate, but our pay is particularly attractive - as has been shown here!

Good god!!!! a pair of freeloaders!!!!

I would just string you up!!

A joint family income of £65k, without your second job wages, should be very good in Perthshire ......... where a street of houses cost £10k!!
