My Car Was Stolen!!!
Not sure if this helps, but to give you some idea from a practical experience POV, my 93 WRX was nicked outside a tube station. The insurance had to give it 6 weeks to give the Police the time to find it. I got paid out, then a few days later they found it.. Used in a robbery. with no external damage but the engine didn't sound too good and it was jammed in 3rd..
Police said that was typical use and that as a owner who cherished it, it may not be a good idea to get it back if it's been used in such a thing..
Lost a few hundred pounds on excess, had to drive a Merc A class for quite some time afterwards and spent another several weeks looking for another (with all the faffing that entails). So all in all it wasn't a pleasent experience. Especially that first feeling when you get to the space where you left it..
But when you get your next Scoob.. and you should.. it will soon be forgotten ..
A bit early but I highly reccomend a Barrier Deadlock for the next car. Top piece of protection for a few hundred notes.. Some guys from Liverpool did mine... but info is here.. http://www.candrenterprises.co.uk/security.htm
Come to the next meet anyway and have a beer...

Got a call from the police this morning to say the car has been found and recovered to a garage for forensic testing. They weren't too forthcoming with info but she told me the door lock is damaged, ignition is damaged, it's damaged down both sides and has front end damage where it rammed a police car
However she said it had been found on some playing fields off Osmondthorpe Lane so it sounds as though they got away
(didn't think to ask at the time), she also said it had been used in a number of crimes overnight
I'm waiting for the insurance company to get back to me at the minute but I called the garage as well and they just said the damage is a scrape on the rear door on both sides and 1 rear wing and the back bumper and of course some front end damage. Unfortunately they also advised it has been taken off road but they haven't had a chance to see what damage has been caused underneath yet as it was being fingerprinted at the time.
Gonna try and get down to take a look at it tomorrow, if I can I'll take some pics of the damage and post em.

Barrier Deadlock was one of the first things I fitted to my car. Do a seach and you'll find loads of recommendations, including Rum* who runs Subaru Insured. Webmaster SdB has got one, too.
Call Vehicle Security Installations on 0151 480 4889 and Keith Ascot will tell you who your nearest fitting agent is. A lot of Scoob dealers fit them and it locks the car in reverse. Unless a thief can get some welding gear underneath the car, that's the way it stays.
It's not cheap at £200-plus but all it takes is one second to lock it, and five seconds to unlock (with your eyes closed, after a bit of practise).
Only drawback is it's almost invisible as a deterant - just a sticker on the window. I've printed out a bright yellow and red label that sits in the oddments tray in front of the gear lever, which is very visible. Stops the scum breaking in before they realise the car's going nowhere.
Cheers,
Richard.

Sorry to here about your miss fortune BGOOD. Its awfull when you think about it that its the way of the world that if you have something nice some one else wants to steel it from you wether its stuff from your house, pocket or nice cars. These scum just dont care about the way you will be feeling later on when they have got away with it and will have a good laugh at us. Maybe they should bring in a new law like the burgular law were more or less any amount of force will do for these people. It could go for all car thieves as well, he does not give a shiiit when he takes your property so why should we give a shiiit when we are standing on these peoples hands and arms etc and hear a crack! that law sounds alright with me. At the end of the day you seem to be doing the right thing by wanting another scooby although it must have been hard coming to that desicion at first after what has happened, but as you say why let these people dictate what we want to own.
Good Luck Mate.

Well I've been to see it and taken some photo's, I have to say it doesn't look too good
although being covered in fingerprinting dust doesn't help
Insurance assessor hasn't been to inspect it yet so dunno if it's gonna be a write off and nobody has inspected underneath it yet so still don't know how bad that is. The guy at the garage today said there was a big grass mound where they found it and the thieving scum had been using it as a rally course
Perhaps some of you guys could let me know what you reckon, pics are available here http://goodridge.fotopic.net/c448737.html (don't click the full size link if you are on a slow connection, they're a bit big)
You're not wrong about it being a difficult decision at first mate and my heart goes out to anyone who has had this happen it's a bloody nightmare but if you ask me that's all the more reason not to let these scum win,
to the scum

If your insurers dont propose to write this off them you need to see that its constructively written-off. It isnt too hard to imagine how the cars been driven from the damage thats been done to it; you dont want this back under any circumstances.

Well the insurance company finally got an engineer out to inspect the car on Friday, after a little prompting
, so phoned them today to see if they had received the report. They hadn't but put me through to the engineers to see if they could give me some idea what the outcome might be. They were able to give me more than that, they told me exactly what the report said, total loss!
So the thieving little scum sucking sons of virus infested ****** have killed me car

I'm just in the process now of getting all my documents together to send to the insurance company so they can see what mods it's had and hopefully offer me a decent amount for it, they've not offered anything yet as they hadn't received the report.
I'm kind of excited about the prospect of going out and finding another one, especially with all the knowledge I've racked with the help of you guys and gals but also feel pretty gutted that the car I put so much effort into has been trashed
Still with any luck the next one will be bigger louder and better, oh and a lot more secure

Buy it back for the bits and/or to put back on the road. They normally give 1st refusal to the owner and the salvagers will pay a fixed princely sum of 20-25% of the market value so you should get a similar deal.
(at least this is what used to happen, anyone know better?)

I'm so gutted for you mate, I'm taking delivery of an almost identical car at the weekend, and seeing whats happened to your car I'm definately gonna invest some extra £££ on security.
Good luck with the new one, dont let the f*ckers get you down.
