Who's 'we' Pete? Are you a closet copper? You have a strange attitude for someone who drives an Impreza turbo and visits a perfomance car forum......wouldn't you be better served with an Allegro, and using the relevant website?
This'll raise your hackles probably, given your intolerant nature towards people enjoying their possessions, but recently while on holiday back home in the North, I managed to reach 161 mph at 2am, on what I shall describe as a deserted stretch of 'private' road. I do this every now and again, because I enjoy the experience. There was nothing to hit, the only person that could've been hurt was myself. Agreed, if the emergency services had to come and scrape up what was left, should the worst have occurred, they wouldn't have had much fun. However, I don't imagine it's much fun for whoever has to go and rescue someone who's just fallen off the mountain they've been trying to climb, or for whoever is responsible for making sure that single handed attempts to cross the Atlantic don't end in tears when the totally inadequate boat they've set off in predictably capsizes. Haven't heard of great outcries against this approach to life though, probably because it's not enough of a money spinner for the Government. If everything that involved danger was legislated against, you wouldn't have any life at all. Better life with some risk than none at all, don't you think Pete?

And if you'd read my post you would have seen i mentioned it would be used on track days which is LEGAL,it is also LEGAL to use any power you have on the road unless you breach the speed limit,it would then become ILLEGAL

Just because you have more power in your car doesnt mean you have to be driving at ridiculous speeds to feel the benefit, and i thought the fishing was a good comparison as i have absolutely no interest in fishing and anyone spending money to improve their fishing seems like a complete waste of money to me,as does anyone spending money to improve their car to you simple really

'WE' is the general public who live in fear of getting their family members killed by idiots speeding for their own gratification!!

Thats why 'WE' will eventually make speeding as unacceptable as drinking and driving!

I remember when I was young it was considered OK to drink and drive ...... just as YOU think its OK to speed!!

Its was NEVER OK to drink and drive ........ and its NEVER OK to speed!!

2am on a clam, dry, empty road you may think is OK, but how about those who have to tell your family that you are now dead because you wouldn't listen to reason????

Why the FUKC spend £1000's on something and NOT make use of it then??

You know, and I know, that the temptation to speed would be too great to avoid!!

If you were on the trackdays then you would be making use of it,and your argument for the temptation of speeding is a bit weak considering every new car on the road today can easily exceed 70mph.

Why. oh WHY, pay £1000's to make it do 150MPH???

It just doesn't compute with the intelligent amongst us, sorry!

Er, Pete, I'm not dead, driving at speed doesn't automatically render you so, lesson there for you perhaps.....thanks for taking part though, you've cured my insomnia, I'm off to bed.

Just before I go, if you have family members walking about where I was at 2am that night, you have more problems to worry about than people speeding. Night!

Friend of a friend got banned for three months just a few weeks back. Luckily he has "driving ban insurance" worth £6k - just gets taxis everywhere now, sends the receipts to the insurance co, they cough up the cash!

So it works out cheaper and easier for him to get around now he's been banned

Yup, you have to have below six points when you first take it out, but once you start it you just keep it going.

It doesn't include being banned for dangerous or drink driving, anything else is fair game

Being pedantic i thought they did 150mph or thereabouts anyway but thats not your point i know

It's not about top speed to most people,my car is uprated to 279bhp which cost the previous owner a few quid, but comparing it to a standard car is not about the top speed,it's about the overall drive and how the car responds and accelerates.
It's just about making the whole car better at everything, and you could argue well why not just go out and buy a better car in the first place which would make sense but most people don't factor in cost of upgrading when they buy a new car just getting the newest or best condition model they can afford, and then when funds allow after getting the car they improve on what is already there if they want to,and the more questionably "intelligent" people just drive the car and leave it as it is,i'm sure you blow your cash on things which other people find unusual and a waste, you could say owning a pc and being online is just asking to break the law when you see all the stuff in the press about people being locked up for sick pictures being found on their hard drives.

So why are you online??
Because you want to use the internet for gassing with me rather than looking at sick pics.
Just because you have the option of doing wrong doesn't mean you'll do it.

Good debate tho,i look forward to your response

Well constructed response

I have never seen any reason (except track use) to improve upon these cars allready impressive turn of speed .... mine still amazes me after 5 years! and the cost?? well, it runs into £1000's!!

Fools and their money I suppose??

I can lose my licence in my STANDARD Impreza, quite easily ..... so, why desire more??

Its simply lost on me!

Dunno, it's all rolled up into his normal car insurance, part of a package deal. You can buy it separately but it costs more that way, something like £50 a year or so.

I know what you mean, but some people just want that little bit more,i was quite suprised when you said you actually owned an impreza,i was expecting something with no go in it due to your stance on speeding.

I've had mine 2 years and i'm still in the smile everytime i drive it phase,ok so it's already been upgraded but i would really recommend you having a go in an uprated one,it's not needed top speed wise but the extra shove in the back in the mid range is always gonna stretch that smile a little wider

Maths, statistics and insurance policies not your strong suit obviously! As I said, it is part of a package for him, and the deal probably works out less than £50/year! Once you start taking it out, I believe the policy price doesn't change.

I know you want to take some out, here is an example for ya http://www.quotesnow-cars.co.uk/speed-camera.htm

You still out there Lewis? Don't disappear just yet, need my 5 minutes of amusement before bed, your patter helps me sleep!
Just wanted to ask......by your logic, spending money on modifying a car is wasted, yet you've gone out and spent Christ knows how much more than you needed to on something standard that, by your own admission, far exceeds the limits your prepared to drive to. Bit hypocritical to come on here spouting the rubbish you do about others , when an Impreza sport ( or indeed an Allegro estate ) would've served your needs just as well. Don't you think?

No, I fancied a reliable, quick car - so I bought one.

If I wanted MORE power I would have bought something else

What I would not do is buy the wrong car in the first place! Which, by definition, is what you have done if you need to change/modify it!

Simply put, those who need to modify their cars bought the wrong car in the first place - the height of stupidity I am sure you will agree?????

Am I really the only intelligent species on this BBS??

Can't let your definition of intelligent go unchallenged, it's clear to anyone reading this thread that you're living proof that the population is getting stupider. You bought a car that exceeded your needs, and spent more than you needed to do so. Therefore you are as stupid as the people you accuse of being stupid for modifying theirs.....ipso facto. Your arguments are as pointless as the speed limits you misguidedly try to defend, just need to see you start babbling on about how ' speed kills ' now, to know that the Governments brainwashing of mindless morons is starting to take effect.

Micapink ...... you clearly CANNOT read - I bought the car I wanted as I said above if I wanted more I would have bought a different car! Funds are not an issue.

But to buy the wrong car and then have to modify it, making it unsaleable in the meantime, is the height of stupidity and plenty of companies profit from that complete lack of basic understanding

I clearly cannot read, says the man who can't even copy out someone elses username correctly when it's right in front of him! Think you'll find that whatever your opinion of the colour of my car, most right thinking people acknowledge it to be the best colour on a classic, leaving you in the minority again.
You are too stupid to even understand the basics of the point I am making unfortunately....I'm not suggesting you bought a car that achieves less than you require, exactly the opposite. And has it occurred to you that funds may not be an issue for those of us with mods? Every point you have made is flawed in ways that you can't seem to bring yourself to acknowledge....my classic is standard now, in your opinion I should now have no trouble selling it....wake up. While you're waking up, I'm off to bed, night night. Again, thanks for your help with my insomnia, ever thought of tape recording your nonesense and marketing it as a cure? You'd make a fortune.
