Apart from the road-safety / pedestrian safety issue, I think anyone breaking the speed limit in Allerton Bywater is asking for trouble!

Do you fancy hurtling your car into one of the many 6-foot wide craters that populate the roads around the area??? The road surface conditions around there are amongst the worst I've ever seen!

 

Have I missed something?

This has nothing to do with being a hypocrit or with the speed we've either done or will do.. CF's point is that Bubba shouldn't be complaining about some prat doing 70 up his street, but that he should have been standing by watching or with his child as he or she played outside his house and that any harm would have been his or the childs fault.

And some of you are agreeing?

So now we have to completely supervise all children wanting to play in the street or keep them in because you or some other to55er can't keep their speed down in a 30?

If it had been a motorway, then I'd tend to agree.. but a residential street? With kids on? You may as well blame the old lady for getting mugged because she had the audacity to go to the post office to get her pension... she should have had someone with her... silly cow.

i know CF very well and i can assure you he doesn't want to hurt anyones kids,but your kids are your responsibility not anyone who might be driving by your houses.

 

Come on get real How can you watch your kids 100% of the time especially when they are outside playing with their friends. We aren't talking about the playing the road here are we If something happens at 70mph to a car it'll go anywhere including into a garden.

Speed limits are there for a reason! I am not going to preach about speed limits but common sense should come into it and a few of you don't seem to have that

Residential areas... where people live! Not where you can drive your car at its limit! How can chemicallyfree have a point? We're not talking about five or ten miles per hour over the speed limit, here. And to combat the "How do you know how fast he was going" argument, I could hear him for a while before I saw him.... my road is fairly straight and I heard his dump valve go off just after the only slight bend in it, approximately 250-300 yards before my house. He was at the very top of second when I heard him, and he dumped again just after my house where I was washing my car... I know that the top of third is near eighty miles per hour in a UK scoob. Defend him, you fúcking ****heads, and I'll spit in your faces.

Keeping an eye on the kid doesn't even come into it - doing 70mph down a residential street with a 30 limit is

a) Highly illegal,
b) Extremely dangerous and
c) ******* stupid

 

Answer the following..

• The above statement applies even if it is illegal and morally wrong to do 70 in a residential area?
• What's your stance on the actions of the driver?
• What about the fact that it could have been a pregnant lady crossing the road with a child in her hand? Anyone could get killed in that situation..
• You neatly skipped the old lady analogy..

Do you have kids dangerous dave? If you do, would you be happy with someone driving past your house at what looks like a speed that was not just a bit over 30, but probably twice that while they were out playing?

 

I don't think anybody would be happy with the above, but what do you suggest we do about it !!!!!

 

let me try and clear this up.

i do not condone speeding in built up areas.
what i was trying to say is,if you live on a stretch of road that people can hit the sorts of speeds mentioned you need keep a closer eye on your kids.

there will always be speeders, and there will always be parents who think that thier child is everyones responsibilty except thiers.

if the road is dangerous surely that makes sense .................don't it.

With a scoob, that's every Cul-de-sac, High street or private road longer than 50 yds. Ludicrous to think that in your world parents should have to keep their kids at arms length.. People shouldn't be speeding, not keeping kids inside.

There's not one person on here who even remotely mentioned or hinted that their kids safety was yours or anyone elses responsibility. CF & you brought that into the thread.. It would help if you could keep the context.

Absolutely agree. But using your logic, then Bubbas residential street should be classed as dangerous (because someone can speed on it) and all the kids kept inside.. BTW, the old lady analogy is completely relevant.. The street she's on can be occupied by a mugger, so it's her fault she got mugged.

Dave, if you weren't condoning speeding, why did you post negatively on a thread about speeding. The car was travelling at more than twice the legal limit on a road that has a school on it. So how sad does CF have to be to jump on the parental responsibilty aspect as opposed to the speeding issue?

We do not let Frank play outside without supervision but like Alan C so reasonably put it, if you are outside at the time a car loses control, it doesn't matter if you are at the bus stop, in the road or in the garden because no-one knows where the car will end up.

 

One thing we can do, Livewire, is point out what a disgrace it is to behave like that when you're out in your car. I'm sure Mr. Red Classic doesn't see himself as a slavering child-killer. If he has read this thread, which he may have done, then he cannot have failed to notice that *almost* everyone is united in condemnation of his behaviour. If it was me who'd been pulled up publicly on this BBS for some reason, my ears would be scarlet and I'd think more carefully about the way I drove in future. There are some people that are impossible to reach, however.

any road is a dangerous place regardless of what the vehicles speed is that use it.

surely you would agree that it's common sense to keep a closer eye on your boy while he's playing near it.

you're not going to stop speeding traffic down your street so it makes sense to do everything you can to ensure the safety of your boy while he's outside,and not blame something you have no control over.
