Ray, I had hangups about too much noise on mine, same year classic as yours. It has the centre cat still in , but has Janspeed/Scoobysport uppipe and downpipe, sti b/box and ported headers. The uppipe and d/pipe are wrapped, and the car is quieter than standard.

Was running full decat as :
H&S open neck decat d/pipe with splitter mod
P1 decat centre section (same as PPP/Sti V)
PPP Back box
Found this to be noisy when giving it some welly, but really quiet when cruising. Also had just the right amount of burble when driving about with the family full
Decat d/pipe only made the rest slightly louder, but did also deepen the note quite a bit which was rather a (pleasant) surprise
Got the std cat downpipe back on ATM and it sounds all rather quiet by comparison now.

I have fitted a Full Scorpion, removing both cats on my 93 RA and i think it sounds awsome, i actually want it louder and want to change the downpipe for an open mouth one.
It pops and bangs a treat, again I love it and the Neighbours hate it, one in particular, who use to make it awkward for me to get in and out of my drive, soon parked else where when i deliberatly gave him some extra noise when i was reversing my scooby right up to the side of his Jag.
Love the noise would not want it any Quieter.

loud .... yes
Bothered about it ........ no
Wife and daughter love the sound of it.
If you've got a flat 4 .... flaunt it
Magnex twin dump de-cat D/P, Tsl de-cat center, TSL Group N back box with 4" out

I have Revolution 3", quietened by exhaust manifold, underlay in boot and a centre section resonator. Still way too loud IMHO. Embarrassing really. But what can I get that flows the air and is quieter?

I looked at the stuff made for cars but way to expensive and heavy.
Also looked at carpet/wooden floor underlay but didnt know which kind. found the thick green slabs but not to keen on them.

what's your bb ray? I used to have a firestorm (103db), but changed it to the tornado(also 103db) which has the bung for quieter journeys (89db)

H&S downpipe, magnex (resonated) centre and magnex 3.5".
yes its too loud.
I have bought and am swapping to a revolution 3" system tomorrow morning.
I also have tubular headers going on in the near future.
I intend to whack a resonator on the centre section.
it is embarressing and cringeworthy when I leave for work in the mornings (6am) and I am concerned about the neighbours.
simple point of physics...
if your noisey and making flames then your wasting available energy.

I've had 7 different boxes/systems trying to find something that sounded good outside but didn't drone inside and now, at last, I've cracked it I have a Scoobysport (H&S) downpipe which is wrapped with some spare exhaust wrap and a Magnex resonated centre that I used with the original Scoobysport (H&S again) box but I found that a bit too loud (droning) so sold that box and got a Prodrive one which was too quiet then a WR Sport oval which is supposed to be the same as the Prodrive with a different tail pipe and that sounded great (it was second hand so I don't know how many miles it had done) but I hated the oval so off it came to be replaced with an Afterburner that I bought in a moment of madness at NBO1. The Afterburner was LOUD and you could feel the vibrations from it through the floor...That was replaced with an H&S box with 4" tailpipe and which was, of course, too loud (some people never learn ) so next along was an STi box which was too quiet and I also missed the big Jap style tail pipe of the Afterburner so I then got a new Scorpion system complete with unresonated centre which was fine for a while but I still got a drone at 2500ish revs which drove me daft. I replaced the centre with the Magnex resonated one and that made an improvement (incidentally, that centre has been wrapped with ladder tape which is used for insulating boilers etc and that helps a bit too). To get to the point (at last) somewhere along the line I had also invested in a full Noise Killer kit which I was disappointed in because it didn't make a lot of difference and the bits under the carpet made the carpets a loose fit so I had eventually taken them back out and they were lying in the garage doing nowt. I cut these up and stuck them all over the boot floor , in the inner wings, spare wheel well, everywhere without making much difference BUT, after I removed the back seat (MY98 saloon) and filled in the spaces between the Noise Killer in the boot and the bit under the seat AND PUT SOME BEHIND THE CARPET ON THE VERTICAL PANEL THAT COMES UP FROM THE FLOOR TO THE SEAT BASE the improvement was immediately noticeable and I now have what I was looking for So, I now have a H&S (wrapped) downpipe, Magnex (wrapped) resonated centre and Scorpion back box with 4" Jap style tail pipe and no droning I think that the key part was putting Noise Killer in that vertical panel because it is thin metal and the noise of the exhaust must bounce back off it. It certainly worked for me so if you give it a go I'd be interested to know if it helps you too

Jesus you wasted some cash during that!!! Glad you're happy now
Ray_li, check one of your gaskets aren't blowing. The decat on my last bugeye was fine to start with, but it seemed to get louder, until towards the end of owning it, it was getting really annoying on motorway. When i removed the heat shield to put the standard DP back on before getting my new car, i noticed that one of the bolts of the back of the tubo/DP had dropprd out and the other 4 bolts were loose, an dthere was about a 3-5mm gap between!!! No wonder it was fecking loud!!!

Austen_wrx - i'll check over the weekend.
RaymondH - gonna give that a try with the installation under the seat and the vertical area from the floor to the rear seats.
