10 miles in 10 hours... At 60mph that's, oh, let's see, 10 MiNUTES!!! In the meatime the rest of us have had 10 minutes added to a 20 minute journey. Thanks, guys, your self-interest is obvious!

If the professional truckers had got their collective act together on this issue 10 years ago and done something about the selfish driving that leads to 10-mile overtaking manouvres (I challenge any of them on this thread to explain why that isn't a selfish manouvre) they wouldn't be getting this backlash from the professional car drivers now! You made your bed, sleep in it!

Ah, the cowboy truck driver shows his colours! So, you happily cut up the car drivers? You happily hold up other road users? You happily cause other drivers to take avoiding action? That's how I read your posting.

What happened to all the skills you're supposed to have? (I exclude spelling, grammar and punctuation from the list, of course.) If you're getting flashed in anger (as opposed to in courtesy) it's probably because you're not considering the other road users. If you're getting it in anger often, you shouldn't be on the road.

For reference, I've so far passed 5 driving tests, of various levels up to and including LGV C+E, both sides of the Atlantic.

What makes me a professional driver is I do it for a living. Your goods wouldn't even get out of the loading dock without me. But I don't think that gives me ownership of the road. That's something else that makes us different.

Girls, girls, GIRLS! I didn't start this post for you two to fight incessantly in it. Sod off elsewhere and have your fight, please!

As a courtesy and an encouragement, I've created this new thread for you to continue your scrap in:

Did you actually mean to say: "No, it's called 'driving too fast' in their, what they think are fast, cars! "?

A few questions:

1) Are you trying to enforce the law? If so, are you a police officer?
2) Does their speeding give you the right to a dangerous manoeuvre (forcing them to take avoiding action)?
3) This is a performance car enthusiasts forum. What are you doing here?

Do you remember the bit, when you did your advanced training, about road skills and race skills being totally different? I contend that your race skills are immaterial, while your road skills are immature.

You missed my point - although I can't be sure if that was deliberate or due to stupidity. For the sake of clarity, it was that crap driving by truckers adds 50% to many people's journeys, while having to slow down 1mph would only add 2% to theirs (ignoring the fact they will have less congestion to deal with, too).

I think you've confirmed my thoughts on your driving. Offer us all a description of your truck would you, so that we know what to look out for? For our own safety, of course...

You must drive on different roads to me. The biggest cause of delays are car drivers who stay in lane 3 and do not move over to let faster traffic through when they have completed their overtaking manouver and those that have a mind set and automatically stay in lane two, regardless of their speed. This effectively reduces a 3 lane motorway to 2 lanes for anybody travelling faster than them.
I am sure there are car drivers that sit in lane 2 and are totally ignorant of the fact that HGVs are restricted to lanes 1 and 2 and limitted to 56mph.

I think the law of trucks not overtaking needs some leeway and should perhaps only be applied to the busy roads in the country or at busy times sensibly by Traffic Police. If we were truckers it would be ridiculous to have to follow a truck doing 40mph when you could do a lot more at 3 in the morning with no other traffic about cause the law says so.

Think these rules should just be for rush hour and use digital signs to inform truckers whether they are in force for that road at that time.

I would hate the left lane to be a massive slow moving queue of trucks following one slow vehicle. How would you join and exit the motorway. That is where most motorway Queues form and spread from slow exits and entrances to motorways.
