I'd vote Labour if they pledged to abolish the grossly unfair council tax and replace it with a local income tax.

Still clinging to the 'Vote the Tories in and all the country's ills will be solved' ideal I see

So saying that the differences between the parties are negligible is a cop out is it? Well that's interesting as how many times have I heard on here that Labour are only continuing the Conservatives' policies.

Seriously though you can read all the policies you want (and to be honest try as I might I can't find very much in the way of clearly stated policies on the Conservatives' website), but what matters is whether they implement them or not. Breaking election promises is about the only thing both parties seem consistently good at so what's the point in reading them even if you can find them.

Sorry, but as was said elsewhere on this thread both parties' aim is solely to get elected and not to do any real good for the country hence why there are only minimal differences between them.

Vive la revolution!

Best regards,

tiggers.

Conservative for me. I was sad enough to study A-level Gov and Pol where we had to learn about their general ideologies on high level political subjects and at 16 had no opinion... Studied hard and for me only one winner.
Plus we got programmes like Howards Way under the tories - so it simply has to be

Yeah, well you'll get a less palatable version of Howard's Way of you vote them in - Michael Howard's Way

Tiggers, you know i was crumbling an' all...

Well I just read Castro's 'La Historia Me Absolvera' (WHAT a brave man he was, and he's still got his finger up at the self serving bully boys next door). Anyway, what I'm saying is (and esp. after after my recent candid camera fine:P) I'm now up for a bit of a revolution; set the ball rolling old boy & let me know when and where?

LOL

Just clicked the conservative button because in my experience life was better under conservative governance.

But I'm with Tiggers on this one - we need a revolution, for no one, anywhere, to vote. That would make them think a bit.

BTW, you can knock one of the (very) few labour poll votes off - it appears someone has voted twice

Diesel,

Well for a revolution first we need a charismatic, but somewhat mysterious leader who takes no BS from anyone (and who should post next, but Diablo )

Castro is one of my heroes simply because he and his country are surviving despite the actions of their next door neighbours. I did learn the hard way though that this is not a view some Americans share

Diablo,

The not voting idea is actually very interesting. The turnout's are getting lower and lower anyway. I wonder what what would genuinely happen if no one voted (I know it's not likely before anyone says something). If the turnout is so low that a good majority of the registered voters aren't voting surely that is a rejection of the political system anyway?

I think we need a separate thread about possible alternatives to our political system and how to get there - a job for next week I think.

Regards,

tiggers.

To be fair, that's not strictly true. You can read "Blair's Wars" by John Kampfner, and have no trouble despising the PM without meeting him.

With the low turnouts a party can get into government with a minority vote of all entitled to vote.
For me, no current party represents my range of views in that on some issues, I could be considered left wing on others right wing. I suspect this may be so for others. I'm not sure the political parties fully understand this unlike marketing people who are more aware of how much more individual we have become.
Now, alternatives to voting, yes please let's have a thread because I have some ideas on this.

Still clinging to the 'Vote the Tories in and all the country's ills will be solved' ideal I see
That’s strange, because I can’t remember ever saying this. This is just some fiction you’ve chosen to make up to suit your own agenda - Nothing new there then. For the record I don’t believe that at all any more than I read the Daily Mirror. I fully expect that you read the Guardian and the Independent however.

What I have said all along is that the current government must be removed from power at all costs, and at the earliest opportunity before it is too late to reverse the damage they are doing to our society and country. The Conservatives are the party most likely to be able to achieve this, therefore we should all be voting for them. Thankfully on the evidence of the poll here, most people seem to agree.

So saying that the differences between the parties are negligible is a cop out is it? Well that's interesting as how many times have I heard on here that Labour are only continuing the Conservatives' policies.
Yes it’s a cop out. Just more meaningless slogans as is the assertion that ‘Labour are only continuing the Conservatives' policies.’ A simple minded analysis at best, but nice and convenient as a substitute for an informed opinion.

Breaking election promises is about the only thing both parties seem consistently good at so what's the point in reading them
How do you know that Howards government would ‘break all their election promises’ when they’ve never been in power? It’s just a another negative statement with no factual basis whatsoever. By contrast here is ample evidence of new labour are breaking promises and lying electorate on a regular almost daily basis.

Sorry, but as was said elsewhere on this thread both parties' aim is solely to get elected and not to do any real good for the country hence why there are only minimal differences between them
Oh I see, so because someone said something on a thread somewhere on Scoobynet that translates as a fact in your book? No wonder you seem so confused. Your solution seems to be that we need a ‘people’s revolution’. LOL to be honest that’s the sort of wishy-washy sixth former type sentiment that I would expect from someone unable or unwilling to grasp the realities of current politics in this country.

Still you clearly know best, so I let you get on with it.

unclebuck,

Thank you for your reply. FYI my statements are not facts necessarily, they are my opinions - we all have them (just some of us think a little harder than others before forming theirs )

You want the Conservatives in. I don't! It's as simple as that. Get used to it.

By the way the revolution comments - it's a tongue in cheek thing, but don't worry if you don't get it

Best regards,

tiggers.

Thumbs down

You want the Conservatives in. I don't!
There you go again. I never said that. Don't twist the facts - something your New Labour buddies are all to good at (or so they think)

So who is 'thinking harder' here? What I want is New Labour out of power. Spouting the politics of the sixth form common room will not contribute anything toward achieving this.

Claiming that your opinion is tougue in cheek sums it up nicely. I'd call it smug gibberish, but then what do I know?

Now check the public results of the poll at the top of this thread - I think we can all see the name unclebuck against the Conservative option.

So therefore you are indicating that you would vote for a party that you don't want to see in power which is plainly not sensible (I'm being polite here ) or maybe it is not me who is twisting the facts after all

Anyway this is clearly going nowhere as ever - do with it what you will

Regards,

tiggers.

Diesel,

Don't fret comrade for we will discuss the beginnings of the revolution (or any other alternatives to our career politician focused system of government) next week on Scoobynet. It's what Che would have done had SN been around in his time of need

The UK is experiencing an unprecedented economic boom under New Labour. Quite frankly, you never had it so good!
