Oh, and I will be taking some pics of the car...it's on my ever-increasing to do list.

Good news smiles.

Where did you get the engine done, or did you build it yourself?

Mine sti5 wagon has just started knocking so im looking for ideas at the moment.

Hi

I had it done by Len at Subaru 4 you in newbury. I spoke to all the tuners to get some quotes and hear their ideas and suggestions of what they would do - API, ScoobyClinic, Roger Clark, TSL etc

In the end i whent with Len as for me had had the best attitude and the package he put together was the best out of all of them for what I wanted.

I guess it depends what your budget is and what you want and your power aspirations.

I ruled out the 2.5 early on due to finances needed to do a proper job. And i ruled out the straight rebuild as it was going to cost nearly the same to have uprated parts in it. Len worked me out a good deal with a Nitrided sti9 crank, and rods, acl bearings, mahle pistons. But depends on how the rest of your engine looks, I needed a rebore and pistons were shot anyway, otherwise may have got away with those. flywheel was ok but clutch goosed, and you may find you heads are gone too, need reconditioning , luckily were ok still.

Len has had 5 rebuilds in recently I think, and the P1 has had same as me. so the sti9 route is getting very popular for sti5/ pi owners as its a logical step, why rebuild with standard internals when the sti9 ones come out with not much in it. We looked at a complete sti8/9/10 shortblock and was about 2k from subaru plus a 500 surcharge - when you can get a rebuild with the mahle pistons. acl bearings etc for circa 3k theres not much in it.

let us know what your thinking of for your plans

Cheers for the info.

I was thinking of going a similar route to you with sti9 crank and forged pistons. Im hopefully going to go for forged rods aswell. Before the knocking I was running a gt30 turbo, 740cc injectors on an apexi power fc with the usual mods, exhaust + headers. I was only running 1.4 bar but a wrong gearchange killed it off. So now im looking to make the most of the turbo.

Im at the stage of ringing around for prices and advice so any info is greatly received. I will probably be doing most of the work myself but will get the bottom end built by someone else as Im not that brave yet.

you shouldn't have too, the impreza ones just hang off the bumper fittings. all you need do is undo the nuts and jiggle it around a little and the whole thing will come off

If you look at the picture, the bracket disappears up into the body, presumably, behind the bumper?

All parts were supplied and fitted by Zen Performance - Performance upgrade solutions for Japanese cars. It does make a really nice all rounder, and once on boost pulls well.

paul's 18g looks very similar to andy's

have you had the car dynoed...be interesting to see how similar they are as i'll be keeping my standard ported headers and mines a phase two with a standard TEK3'd ECU...who mapped your car?

sorry loads of q's
