Three equally worst, 1.1 Saxo, 1.1 Clio and 1.0 Punto.

Best, wait for it, a 1.8 Fiesta SI, was a like a go-cart on the swisty cheshire countryside roads, great fun.

Had a horrible suzuki 'swift' from a TVR bodyshop, god knows why they called it that

Made an original sound when it hit the limiter

Fiat Chiquechento(sp), nasty horrible, gutless, no brakes crap handling pile of poo that was falling to bits. Even a Mk1 corsa is better. (if only slightly).

I thought it would be a Diahstsu Cuore 3pot that I got given.....Never had so many grins since I last drive a "proper" mini

Worst - Adams gave me a 1997 1.8GL wagon Auto when my MY04 was in for PPP a couple of months ago. It had no fuel in it and was making some really strange noises!

Best - back in 2000 when I had a 206GTI which was in for warrenty work Adams (Peugeot this time) gave me a brand new 306GTI6 for the weekend. - that was better than the 206 and I didn't want to give it back!

Only had a courtesy car a couple of times from the dealer, and every time so far I've ended up with a 53 reg WRX. It makes me appreciate the STi when I get her back because:
...when I turn the steering wheel the car responds instantly
...when I press the joy pedal something joyous actually happens
...when I press the stop pedal the car actually slows down
...when I turn the radio on it isn't tuned into Radio1 (sorry lads but its just noise, why in my day <cough> <wheeze> )
...and would you believe there are gears in there somewhere with that WRX box, pick a random direction and you usually find something in the end (the STi snicks its way through precise 'n crisp)

Don't get me wrong the WRX is OK as a car, but best used as a reason for spending £4k more for an STi. Remember: beauty is only a light switch away

PS. moo ... that's moo in the existential sense of course

When my GTi-6 was in for repairs, Eagle Star's approved repairer gave me a 5 year old Escort LX with a driver's door window that wouldn't wind down. It was obvious from the state of the paintwork and fit of the body panels that it was a salvage car that had been badly repaired.
When the GTi went back to rectify poor repairs I got another crappy write off with the steering wheel totally off angle and again resprayed with an aerosol from Halfords.

The one 1995 Impreza GL I got given shocked me into realising that the standard car the scooby turbo is based really is a pile of pants - I cannot honestly tell which was better handling - a Cavelier GL or an Impreza GL. Never looked at scoobies the same ever since.

Default ok its not courtesy car but a hire car

in about 93, i needed a hire car from edinburgh to do site visits in Galashiels, Hawick, Penrith and whitehaven.
So i got one of the girls in the office to book me one to collect from Edinburgh airport when i got there late in the evening the day before this whirlwind round trip.
Arrived on the last flight to, "sorry sir that booking hasnt been made" (1st sight of steam from my ears) then "the only car we have is this..."
shows me the keys
Fiat Cinquecento
bolox
704cc 31Bhp.
Fookin byatch.
Anyway took it and ragged the ****out of it.

The only way to get anywhere, bearing in mind this is a hilly trip to say the least, was to full throttle all the way, canny use of gaps in the traffic, blind faith o/taking lorries and dont stop, slow,
ever.

I must have looked a right tosser, especially to the Tornado pilot who gave a full load of in your face "look at me im doing 600mph" reheat as i crested one valley coming out of Hawick.
It wouldnt have been so bad if i'd seen/heard him coming but to come up behind me at +100ft. Scared the living ****out of me.

If it was ever hired out again i'll be suprised.
Serves them right for having such a stupid hire car.

dunno why you guys are slating the justy, it's a blinding abuse car. redline drop clutch pull aways, clutchless gear changes. the lot. excellent at hand brake turns aswell. great fun and didn't break either. (which is nice)

thought the ka was a great little car too and a bloody good handling car aswell (didn't like j turns though)

mental note - never buy a courtesy car

It gives me no pleasure to say the worst courtesy car I've been given is a Subaru R2.

http://www.subaru.co.jp/r2/

I didn't like it at all. My biggest complaint was the performance. Now I wasn't expecting it to be a ball of fire, but to say it was gutless would be a gross understatement. I'm pretty sure the one I drove had a CVT, the transmission was completely stepless so it was not a conventional auto box. From a standstill the pickup was sluggish. Give it more welly and it becomes even more sluggish!!! It felt like the engine had to get up to a higher speed before the CVT could actually deliver any torque. I felt disconnected from the car, like some higher authority were deciding whether or not I should be given the torque my right foot had requested. Maybe there are manual versions which would be OK, but the CVT version, no thank you!

Also it felt like a toy, very light steering and overly sensitive brakes. You seem to sit on top of it rather than actually in it, but I guess that's similar for all cars in this class. The R2 maybe OK for Japanese mums going to the supermarket but not much use to anyone else IMHO. The only plus is it had was air conditioning as standard, which you need in the summer in Japan. Of course when you have a tiny engine and a CVT your performance is not going to be helped by switching the AC on, but when temperatures are in the 30's you don't really have any option either.

All in all, not good.

Took my Escort Cosworth in for a service and was given a Fiesta van (about 10 yrs ago). Got stroppy so decided to abuse it. This entailed switching the ignition off and on again to get it to backfire, anyway after about 10 times there was an almighty bang and I blew the side out the backbox
Now with the thing sounding like a V8 I decided to see how fast I could be going and still ram the gearstick into first anyway at my first attempt slowing for a roundabout at about 35 I got it in let the clutch out and bang, lost all drive Collapsed the clutch plate or something.

Got recovered on a tow truck

Oh almost forgot the front number plate was missing aswell

Well that just proves everything is relative.

I feel exactly the same about owning a WRX and having an Avensis as courtesy car. All your bullet points apply exactly the same.

well the good news is that i got my car back today although after driving the justy i had to 're-learn' how to drive mine! Hoskinb has a point about the Justy, the point being you can have fun in it although i reckon you can have just as much fun in any car that isn't your

Driving the Justy for a couple of days has made me fall in love with the 'burble' all over again - god i love that sound

Worst - a horrible purple Justy from Tiley's of Bristol. Had it twice.

What's annoying is seeing other people getting nice shiney WRXs from Tiley's of Bristol as courtesy cars....

If it happens again I'm off to those nice people at PowerStation in Cheltenham to have it serviced - they did a great job on the suspension & are really nice people too - we traded "cars I've rolled" storys afterwards, and agreed Bridgestone tyres were cr*p. Couldn't top his story of trashing EVO magazine's Noble on the way to the South of France!!!

04 reg 1.2 corsa, box with wheels that looked like it had gont to the moon and back and a hammster in a ball for an engine, have to say though the limiter worked in all gears apart from 5th which i never had A> long enough road, B> steep enough hill, C> strong enough wind from behind. lmao although one lesson to learn is never ever ever even consider buying an ex courtesy car no matter what. 100% thrashed car pmsl

Hey i drove one of these in Cyprus on holiday a couple of year's ago, And was quite amusing especially when the mate's in the car screamed ' just cos it has the Subaru logo in the middle of the steering wheel dos'nt mean that it's a rally car !

So how wrong they where ! Toasted it all over the island and still could'nt break it ! Respect due it's a Scooby !
