Used to run a 1293 8-port mini years back, will see if I can dig out some photos and specification.

Sold it to put the deposit down on our first house.

Wonder what’s happened to it, don’t think the guy who bought it ever used it in anger, not surprising really as it was a bit of a beast with the torque steer.

I've had 5 classic shaped mini's up to now, amongst other cars.
Don't listen to the utter bollox off people syaing they are unreliable and dont last and you need to work on them all the time.
Most of the work people do on mini's is either because they dont leave them standard or they dont look after them.
I ran a standard 1275 sprite (94) for 3 years without a single problem.
My latest car started out as a 1275 sprite with 28k miles on the clock,12 month MOT, 6 month TAX '94 reg and no rust as it was garaged by the 1 previous owner (old bloke), it cost £1400.
It now has just over 85bhp and is great fun to drive, still has the standard clutch and so far nothing has gone wrong with it and I've had it 12 months.

I've also had 2 mk4 Polo's and I can vouch for their reliablity/build quality, both of ours were 1.0L's and although we had no problems in over 4 years I can say that the mini wins hands down for fun to drive.

As said above stay away from any of the last minis (98? onwards). Most of the people in our club who run them have had problems due to rusting, most common is the radio stops working one day, this is due to water coming through a rusty patch in the centre of the scuttle panel under the windscreen. Its a fact that many of the later minis were thrown together
Look for something about mid 90's say 92 with carbs or 93 onwards with injection. Preferably one thats been through its rusty stage and been done up, look through the two mini mags for ideas on price / specification etc.
